Suggestions for discount on a legit Vuitton bag?

Any suggestions out there for finding a discount on a legitimate Louis Vuitton bag?

I am looking for one as a gift, and am curious in today's negotiable market how to find one at a discount.

No need to reply "check eBay" or "craigslist" -- I'm looking for ideas I haven't already considered -- and no I do not know anyone who works at an LV boutique.

I have never heard of any. They do an amazing job controlling their inventory with the same obsession as most nations guarding their military secrets.

You won't get one, in all seriousness. They never discount.

They control their inventory, mostly by distributing only through their own stores. And they don´t discount, not even at the Wynn in Vegas when Chanel, Brioni, etc. were on sale. It´s part of their cache. If you´re in Europe, the bag will probably be about 10-15% cheaper at the current exchange rate (my wife checked this recently, and ending up buying the bag, at full retail, in Madrid).

I'm assuming you want the monogrammed bags, or the checker pattern ones. What's the point of buying such an obviously fashionable (read: brand whore) item to show off your ability to afford it if you bought it on discount? I understand those of us on SF buying quality items for a discount, but the LV bag is mainly about showing off/following a trend, not really about having a quality item. I always wonder when I see people with LV bags (real or not) but the rest of their outfit looks like crap, or they look sloppy. Why bother? Please keep in mind this post is not about you, since I don't know your situation.

I think this is what I will tell my wife when she says she wants to buy another one.

This is a gift and it's not really up to the giver to defend the taste of the recipient. (BTW, the recipient *always* looks fantastic ... bag and all.)

I have a strong preference for quality above brand, but that's just me.

To me, LV is primarily a brand -- but I will say this: I have been impressed with how their leather appears to hold up -- I've seen LV bags that have taken years of use and still look very good. (Similarly, I have a Ferragamo belt and wallet I bought years ago and have used a ton and both still look fantastic.)

I would have a much more difficult time purchasing a costly item for someone that I knew or suspected would not hold up. Here, it appears that it will, and that the item is sufficiently "iconic" (from the users perspective) to be carried for years.

So, LV bag she wants, LV bag she gets ....

LV also makes a whole range of leather goods and bags which are fairly discreet but very well made like: Epi, Suhali, Taiga, Utah, Nomade, etc. . Most people are not even aware these lines exist and would not recognize these pieces as made by LV when they see them on the street.

Try buying one of these for your wife/SO.

Yeah I want to get my girl this Channel bag. Only womens purses that look classy to me. $2400 starting price and $several hundred more for the nicer lamb leather.

My wife has several Epi leather LV bags. They are very well made. They are high quality. One is ten years old and was used daily for 3+ years. It looks great. I bought my daughter an Epi leather LV bag and she has used it now for over four years of daily use. Except for sending it back to LV for one small repair, the bag still looks brand new. My wife and daughter would both agree and support your purchase of a LV bag for that special woman in your life! BTW, men and women do recognize the Epi leather LV bags. It is a little like being a part of a more exclusive club.

She owns a few and loves them. I trained her to seek out more classic designs that don't go out of style the next season. Epi FTW.

I would say start collecting LV giftcards at a discount price (like 80% or so)
