The difference between how Family Guy does this and other shows do this is that with Family Guy they just copy shit and add in toilet humor or someone suddenly falling over and smashing their head in the wall or something, or Quagmire saying "giggidy" or some shit. At least in the Simpsons, Futurama, South Park, etc. even when the parodies aren't funny, they're still parodies, not just blatant plagiarism, and there's usually an endearing point hidden there. I watched the Japanese universe bit. It was horrendously stupid. It seriously looks like it's made for 9 year olds who just made it into the fifth grade and have implemented penises into their shit/fart jokes. I also consider American Dad to be a much better show than Family Guy, though truthfully I don't think it's very funny either.

^^ +1 on the comparison of FG parodies to everyone else's Case in point: Family Guy Star Trek episode vs. Futurama Star Trek episode. The only funny thing in the FG one really was Patrick Stewart in general and the Will Wheaton hatred.

+1 Then again, I find randomness and the unexpected to be somewhat humorous. ...I'm one of the few, who find the show rather entertaining.

It can be funny. It's been funny ever other episode for a few seasons now. American Dad is actually a lot funnier right now.

I still think it's hilarious. In fact I think it's been getting better.

But my IQ is about 82 and I'm unbelievably naive so don't give my opinion much stock.
