Opinions anyone?

have not sampled, but opinions are widely divided between heavenly and foul. Doesn't seem to be a middle ground.

True, I need to get myself a sample of this, yet have stll to find out where as this fragrance is only available in Paris.

Picked up a sample during the last TPC sale. Pretty good although I don't know how much wear I'd give it in the heat. Musky without being overpowering. Don't know if it's worth the price but you could do worse.

From what I've heard it is very strong and overpowering, strange..

I'd suggest Editions de Parfums Frederic Malle's Musc Ravageur over MKK. MKK smells like sugary cereal to me. I'm not a fan of MKK.

EDIT: Musc Ravageur on Ebay

Haven't sampled Kiehls Musk yet. I'll be getting some KM from Master-Classter later this week.

I hope you will share your thought with us on Kiehls.

Muscs Koublai Khan is certainly closer to Foul then Heavenly for me. I've sampled it in the Palais Royal store twice a year apart and both times could not bring myself to like it. I think it's easily the most assertive and hardest to wear scent that Serge Lutens makes, though Tuberose Kriminelle bear mentioning for it's polarizing properties also. Smellig MKK all I could think was sweaty unwashed Mongolians riding their sweaty horses for days on end with well worn leather saddles and other gear thrown in there somewhere. I wonder if posters who said MKK was sweet or not overpowering were smelling one of the other Lutens fragnances instead. I also don't think it's similar to PFM Musc Ravageur though I have to admit a lot of Muscs register very faintly for me.

Now this is exactly what I'm afraid of..

My first experience with MKK was similar to Dmax's - I thought it smelled like sweaty man ass after a day digging ditches. This was sampling from a spray decant. A few years later when I visited the Palais Royale store with my girlfriend, it was her favorite scent and I ended up buying it for her. I smelled much, much softer to me then, and it still does. The sweaty smell is present but totally subdued, much like it is in Eau d'Hermes or Declaration. Personally, I don't like to wear straight musk scents like this one or Kiehl's Musk (not dissimilar - sweeter and a touch bolder perhaps), but I like they way they smell on others. I would say Musc Ravageur is in a slightly different category - more spicy amber than musk. I see it as a decendant of Shalimar. It has a very balsamic opening, which can but off-putting, but I like it. It's a lot heavier than MKK, which is fairly transparent despite the challenging notes.

The drydown offers a very soft powdery sweetness to me, too. After wearing this every day for a week or so, I've noticed the civet element varies in intensity, and the sweet-funk ratio changes, based on where it is applied (clothing or skin,) time since application, temperature, and whether I am perspiring. I really like it, but it is fairly sophisticated, and I think people who are quite put off by the animalic element aren't going to recognize the drydown as a silver lining. As one of those who DO like it, I apply fairly sparingly! Don't want to see people turning up their noses as I walk by!

Kiehls Musk has a dirty top note to it for around 20 minutes, then settles into a really nice smelling musk
