The last time I was at the store, the lady said she was the manager for both stores (DC & Reston). She also said that Reston has a larger inventory.

Interesting. Good to know. I live in DC though, so the shop on Connecticut is much more convenient than slogging it out to Reston,

Was at Conn St store once 5 yr ago from out of town. Was looking for Mora (which they didn't have--no surprise at the time). I remember it being pretty small (the store, I mean).

I wouldn't bother with the EEE. Going up one size in width is worth 3/16" of an inch, hence two sizes in width are 3/8" of an inch.

Has anyone compared the Frye James Lug Wingtip boot to the Long Branch?

I prefer the Frye because it seems a little less bulky and perhaps more of a year-round boot where the Vibram sole on the Long Branch. However the Long Branch is more detailed and with similar price points, I am having a difficult time not adding to my AE collection. FWIW the little research that I've done on Frye seems to indicate a quality product. I've only handled their womens boots and have always come away impressed with the craftsmanship.

I have the Long Branch, and I have handled a pair of the Frye's. I think you will be fine with either one. The Frye is distinctively stiffer based on trying to flex the sole by hand. The Frye is made in Mexico, if that matters to you. I've owned one pair of Frye Penny Loafers in my past, and I was fine with their quality (assuming you are looking at Goodyear-welted or hand-sewn moccasin constructions), but I think they are over priced at retail. They are masters of pre-distressed looking footwear, and I think they get away with charging a hefty premium for that. If you can get them on discount, you will get a much better value. You have to be careful with Frye because they make their products all over the world using all types of construction, and the product's quality reflects it's origin. They do use fiberboard insoles in their Goodyear-welted models, which isn't great. However, AE does in some select models (including the Long Branch) as well. If we were comparing the Frye to one of AE's more refined boots, such as the Dalton, I'd give the nod to the Dalton since it uses a traditional leather insole. I agree that the Frye is a bit less clunky than the Long Branch in this case, so depending on your application that may be a benefit. Strictly comparing these two boots, I think either is fine, but overall I consider AE to be a much higher quality product.
