I finally wore my Walnut Strands for the first time today. They are lovely

. Just have two small questions:

1. There seems to be a very small crease. I'm just wondering, what to do to prevent creases? I don't know if I did anything wrong and I wouldn't want them to get worse. I've kept them in shoe trees and also used a driver's license to slip them on and off.

2. On what surfaces are the leather soles less preferable?

Are you talking about creases in the vamp of the shoe? If so, that is inevitable. The best thing to do is use shoe trees whenever they are not on your feet, and make sure you moisturize your calfskin shoes.

Regarding the leather soles, once you wear them around outside a bit, the finish on the soles will wear off and they will grip most surfaces pretty well. They still will slip when wet if walking on marble floors... but they generally grip pretty well.

What do y'all think about this defect? I'm guessing the most obvious part would be covered by pants or generally out of sight, but it's still pretty apparent. However, being sold new for $110-120, do you think it's worth it?

I would avoid. $30 beater shoes perhaps, but not at $100+.

Depends how much details like that bother you (because nobody else will care...but some people would be too bothered knowing that it is there).

Is there a "make an offer" option? Shoot for 75 of you don't have a problem with the defect as long as the defect is suitably repaired so that it won't open up on that seam

Like others say, shoe trees and shoe conditioner. Creases are something we cant change-everyone will crease their shoe differently. I've noticed people who are lucky not to really form creases, whereas my creases tend to be large.

I think that specific defect is a matter of choice. For $100ish, if it wont bother you, its still a good deal. But thats conditioned on you actually being okay with it

If it were me, I would either bid $50-75 or pass and pick up a perfect pair this Summer during Nordstrom's Anniversary sale for $199.

AE Daltons in Walnut Cordovan

They fit a little more lose than other AE shoes on the same last. The fit in the toe box is spot on but my heel does slip a little. Besides from this minor fit issue i'm loving the way they look.

My dad is looking for new dress shoes. Something that go well with chinos and trousers. Park Avenue or Fifth Avenue will work?

The Strand, or maybe the Sanford. The PA is fairly formal, though I like the Fifth Ave, it's a touch more formal than the first two.
