Just got my Players today and am in love! Shoes are darker IRL, I think the color is Walnut?

These are my first nice pair of shoes and I have zero clue how to take care of them. I browsed the shoe care thread but got lost as everyone has different methods, brand preferences, etc. Can anyone just give me a very simple rundown of what to do to make these last as long as possible? I'm definitely buying a shoe tree and shoe horn (yes I'm a complete noob, don't even own these), but am clueless on the polish, cleaner, etc. Is buying this shoe care kit from AE a decent way to get started or is this a ripoff/unnecessary? Although it looks like if I buy that kit I can't get the polish in the color that matches my shoes, I'm assuming I want the walnut colored polish? Sorry for the dumb questions

How rare is a sale like the current 2 for $200? I ordered a couple pair, but I am thinking I should take advantage for another two

Yhx for the responses guys.
- I'm not in a rush or under time constraints so I will keep looking around. Hopefully Nordstrom will be having their anniversary sale as mentioned.
Another question I had was about ae shoe lasts. I recently went in to get fitted. And they never mentioned anything about lasts. All they did was measure my foot and then started pulling shoes. Until I ended at a 10D. What should I do to get the last figured out? Is there anyway to figure what last would fit me best?

Lasts are not the end all be all to proper fit. a balmoral on one last can fit differently vs. another style on the SAME last. Luckily I wear a D size so they are readily available at Nordies or at their Rack. Even then I have gone up to E widths and to the slimmer ones. I'd hate to be someone with EEE or the As and Bs. Easiest thing would be to pay retail at an actual location since you can return and they can special order. However, I want to save some money on this expensive habit. Mostly trial/error, I guess.

How alcohol proof are the leather soles? I was basically stepping in drinks for a whole night.

Depends on the types of drinks. Honestly it's the liquid that affect the leather. Your soles will survive. :)

Fortunately for you I read most of that shoe care thread, and what I can definitively say is that everyone has their own method and preference of products :). I'm no pro, but since you're just getting started like I did a couple of months ago, here's what I've gathered...

Here's a simple starter that you can build on as you get more informed, try other products yourself, and settle on what you think works best for you. Like I said, everyone has their own method and product preferences. If you want to save time, just get these from AE:
  • 1 horsehair brush
  • Walnut premium polish
  • Leather conditioner/cleaner
  • Microfiber cloths (2 should be fine)

Before your first wear (for you don't know how long they've been sitting):
  • Buff with horsehair brush
  • Apply leather conditioner/cleaner and let dry
  • Buff with horsehair brush
  • And if you're so inclined, apply a thin coat of premium polish, buff with the microfiber cloth (this should also remove any excess polish if you applied too much), final buff with the horsehair brush
  • Put'em on and enjoy.

After a day of wearing your shoes:
  • Insert shoe trees
  • Wipe with a damp cloth to remove dust and dirt, let dry
  • Buff with horsehair brush

As for how often you should condition versus polish, you're on your own on that one because I still don't really know, but the consensus seems to be that you don't want to polish as frequently as condition, and that conditioning is one of the easiest things you can do to maintain the health of the leather.

Things started to click when I saw this video: Shoe Shine Like a Boss (). Look at the top comments and see the breakdown of what he's doing.

I received all of my shoes however I am only going to be keeping one pair.

Players are WAY too tight, a wider size might help but i could barely get my foot into it when it was not laced
Kiowa had a very big hump underneath the shoebed, I may exchange these because they are very comfortable
Presidio had too much heal slippage and was too narrow

I am keeping the Vinci, it is so comfortable right out of the gate its insane. Wish they didn't stop making those shoes.

Any tips on sizing for the players? I love the 5 last in 9.5 D but the players in that size are ridiculously tight.

So if you return do you still get to keep the $100 special price or it reverts back to the listed price? Sometimes these multiple purchase deals confuse me.

from the privous 2 for $300 sale experience, the price reverts back to the listed price.
