Wow - that comparison of the new finish to the old finish did it for me. I was already wanting some burgundy shell Daltons, and this ^ combined with the pleasure of wearing my chocolate brown calf Daltons today sealed the deal - ordered them in burgundy shell this afternoon. I can't wait to compare them to my burgundy shell MacNeils.

10D (i bought them from nordstrom, and they let me return the 9.5D) is just too voluminous, especially in the ankle area.
they have sat in my closet unworn since december. musicboohoo[1].gif

This is the 2 last that the Players is on. It is uniquely very narrow compared to the other AE shoes. I find that it either fits you or it doesn't - no in-between. Sad, too, because the Players look so awesome.

Yep I alternate between Saphir Reno, AE cream polish and neutral kiwi wax. I do a quick wipedown after every wear and a polish maybe every 20 wears or so. The flash from the camera may be adding to the shine.

Does anyone own a pair of brown shell shoes and cappuccino shell shoes? I'm trying to get a comparison of the 2, attempting to find how dark the brown shell one are.  Additionally, trying to figure out the suitability of Dundees for a conservative business casual environment - how chukkas appear with dress slacks for use in a professional services firm...

I'd love to see this comparison, too. I recently saw the brown shell in store and mistook them for cappuccino; but didn't have cappuccino there for comparison. The brown is fairly dark already, IMO.

Anyhow, I'm sure someone like coldiron or bucksfan must have both colors in their collection!

From left to right, Brown Burnish Calf (Jefferson), Brown Cordovan (Strand), Cappuccino Cordovan (McAllister), Walnut Cordovan (Strand), Walnut Calf (Strand).

The brown burnish calf on the Norwich is somewhere between the Jefferson and the Strand Cord... Dalton dark chocolate calf are darker than Jefferson.

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

Excellent collection and thanks for the comparison! I was wrong - I thought Cappuccino was darker than brown. Your picture shows why it was so popular when it came out as a special edition color earlier this year.

Also, I'm not as big a fan of the Strand as a lot other folks here in general (don't dislike it, though), but the shell version is simply outstanding. I think in shell it compares with the best of any brand and model I can think of.

Thanks for the great info, and I love the username! When were the cappuccino mcallisters released? I would jump on them if they ever came out with them again.

What an amazing collection right there.... I could live off those.

I wish the strands came out in cappucino, i LOVE the color of my brown cordovans however i think they really only shine in natural sunlight.  if they were a shade or so lighter, they wouldn't look so muted in fair lighting.....

ahh thanks for the info. i seriously couldn't get over how bad they fit compared to my 8 last shoes (this was before i knew about lasts). it got so bad that i ended up actually becoming an Alden man, at least for the last few purchases. shog[1].gif

I think Cappuccino came out briefly as a special edition, but I may be mistaken. I agree with you though - looks fantastic in that photo.

I also fit the 8 last well, and the 2 is just way too narrow in comparison. it's just a very odd last that only fits particular feet. You can't force yourself into it, unfortunately.

I wish AE would update the last information on their website - it's quite out of date, especially with the new lasts coming out now (new 6, for example). Also, they could do with better descriptions. Nowhere do they say, for instance, that the 2 is narrow, which it clearly is: "Elongated toe with a slightly higher instep. Very similar to the 108 last." I find this statement patently untrue and highly misleading. In fact, they give the impression that the 5 is narrower than the 2. This is my biggest peeve with their website. I don't see how they have let this go for so long.
