Still LOL. Thanks, you made my day.

A) Thanks.

B) Awesome shoes.

C) While the jeans are... dated... that actually would be a solid color match if the jeans were in style. Circa '90s, that would be a solid match up. And that's not being facetious.

This look is plastered all over tumblr, pinterest, and other street wear and style outlets. It is alllll sorts of in right now. Especially if you have selvedges jeans that you show off by use of the double cuff.

So I purchased a pair of black PA's from Nordstrom during their sale last month and also purchase a pair of Hale Walnut directly from AE on sale. The size was not correct so I mailed them back and was informed they are no longer in production.

AE was very nice and said I could get another pair of shoes up to $335 (even though the ones I bought were $225). I really liked the look of the Hale and wanted some advice on what I should get instead.

These are my first 2 pairs of nice shoes and I would like to be able to wear them with suits and nicer/casual weekend wear. I really love the look of the Vernon, but is that "too dressy" for an all around shoe? The strands are nice/popular here, but I am not a huge fan of the medallion (hence my love for the Hale and Vernon).

What about the Monk strap?

Neither.  Cole Haan is recognized in SF land as the absolute best quality shoe.

Damn you all are on a roll today! icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif

What do you mean... some people cuff their jeans now? Haven't done that since the early 70's, when you could only get dark and darker. And had to bleach them and rub ashes from smokes into them to lighten them up. OK I'll play nice, yes most of my jeans are darker but I still like wearing well worn and faded jeans that are old from time to time. Not for a serious social occasion of course. But for example like a team building event on the river last week where we told to come dressed very casual.... with brown Wilbert's on the deck of the bar later that night:

Uh oh, someone's a Dappered reader. That thread/topic apparently got pretty grizzly, according to Joe's post on facebook (Joe = founder/editor of Dappered.com). Let me know how they work out for you. They were sold out in my size (7) so I didn't hang around much after that.

And I can't tell if this is spawned from the aforementioned Dappered.com discussion, but, J&M for the gold.

haha actually i'm not... link?  i could use some entertainment right now lol

once it cools off over hear i'll put them on with a pair of jeans, fucking humidity is ridiculous here in the northeast.... they felt good, nothing like an AE, but for something as classic looking as these, i couldn't pass them up.  mind you, i bought a 9, and i'm a 10.5L/10.0R on the Brannock, so these run very long.   once i get a few wears out of them i'll let you know how they hold up, the only crappy think about them is the dull, shitty, heel on them that needs something... idk what to do with them, but i'll figure something out.  too bad they don't have at least the fake wooden heels, but whatever, for $60, they certainly will fool most.  The color is nice as well, i'll probably lighten them up a tad with some walnut polish, since that is the original color i wanted

IMO they are definitely a few shades lighter than the pic

The boots to which you refer were featured today and sparked a lively debate, apparently (i've not read the comments) on quality vs. well, these.

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

While they may not be the right jeans, they do act as a starting point for those wishing to follow in your bootsteps (pun!). Please don't take any of the following as personally offensive/personal/mean/rude/etc.

"Right" jeans characteristics: thin legged, medium to dark denim, rolled once, and selvedged won't hurt.

"Wrong" jeans characteristics: thick legged, tapered leg, rolled more than once and/or too light of denim

Why: thick legged or tapered legged jeans when rolled will create pleats of sorts due to the fact that you're making the circumference of the end point now a bit smaller than what the jean was cut to do. No problem on thin jeans which naturally have little to no taper, or straight leg jeans. When you start making the pleats, you start throwing the geometry off and drawing negative attention. Also, if the jeans taper, this will exaggerate that tapering and begin to, again, throw the "pleasurable" geometry off and draw negative attention.

If you roll once, you don't create too much mass at the roll to the point that it swings like a pendulum, you also reduce the thickness of the cuff so that you don't end up with what looks like shackles at your feet. A single roll, or two rolls where the second roll is just the hem tucked in (difficult to execute properly), keeps the mass of the roll down so it stays in step with your stride/leg, and gives you that sweet spot of just enough thickness to create contrast, not enough to look like a plumbing fitting.

Why dark vs light?: really, it's just the style of things. There is no visual reason you can't do light. In fact, I think that the most swaggerific of the street wear world will start bringing back lighter denim just b/c darker denim is king right now. And I'm talking stonewash light, near-white light... your dad's jeans white.

But as illustrated in the above post, with a nice looking boot hosting some well done details in a solid color, there's a reason to roll them up.

Edit: forgot the pictures... here they are:

Notice on the second picture that he had to really roll those jeans up to show off the entire boot. this may not be ideal for some, and definitely draws the attention to the cuff as it dissects the leg at an... interesting... place. But he keeps with the idea of geometry in that the cuff isn't too thick or too protrusive away from the leg. Consider this the graduate, peacock approach, with the first picture the safer, yet still awesome, way to get it done.
