Same last. Different leather.  So the fit will not be quite the same.  Those PAs look fine as long as the fit is good.

Dear friends,

I've been looking at the new Aberdeen longwing:

http://www.allenedmonds.com/aeonline/producti_SF8022_1_40000000001_-1

It appears to be the same as this BB:

http://www.brooksbrothers.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Merchant_Id=1&Section_Id=522&Product_Id=1684834&Parent_Id=1032&default_color=BROWN&sort_by=&sectioncolor=&sectionsize=#

Anyway, I was wondering about the fit and sizing. It says that it's on the 2-222 last, but the description of the "Lasts" page is a bit vague.

I own the Wilbert (1 last) and it fits great.

How do you think the 2-222 last compares to the Wilbert, in terms of fit, but also in terms of overall length of the shoe?

Many thanks!

Looking to pick up a PA of FA. What's the price I should be paying and where should I buy from? Any sales coming up soon? I can wait a few weeks.

1 to 2 business days. They ship UPS Ground mostly, but will ship USPS Priority if requested. Shipping is always free. nod[1].gif

A lot of people had trouble with the 2 last because it's the narrowest, I had to go up 1 in width compared to 1 last Leeds.

thx phi & mockba before I received this 10D I had actually ordered another 10D as backup just in case the these ones I received had issues.  Once they come in I will be sending them back.

unfortunately I have no experience w/ alden so I am unable to answer your question

In reply to zchen:

Thanks for the answer!

I was thinking the same. My Wilberts are D, so I was thinking going with E or even EEE.

I may even order both E and EEE and keep the one that fits best.

I wish I had an AE store close by. The nearest one is about 1 hour away - not a big deal, but still :-)

And I don't think BB retail stores carry that style.

Anyone else? Has anyone actually tried or seen the Aberdeen in person?

Thanks again!

While having not seen the Aberdeen, I own the Williams and will likely order the Aberdeen. The 2-222 last does run a bit narrower than other lasts, such as the 1. I did not need to go up in width, but can certainly see where some might be inclined. The 2-222 also runs a bit longer and has a very nice tapered shape to the toe. Although slightly elongated, do not size down; the extra room is there to accommodate the taper of the toe - sizing down will likely cause pinching when you walk.

I find the last to be a very good fit, though my foot is long and narrow from heel to toe. If you find you prefer, or need, extra room in the toe box area, this may not be the shoe for you. If however, you prefer a sleek and tapered shape rather than the normal rounded look, the 2 last might be your ticket.

i finally got the flaring fixed! i visited an AE store and i told them what my issue was and they suggested the runner's tie/lock lacing:

i'm pretty happy with the results. my only concern now is the stitching on the sole. do you think this is something i should be worried about? is it a flaw?

i'm pretty sure if i topy it, the topy will cover that spot anyways.

Great info!

Thanks so much.

Imagine, I don't have narrow feet at all! --- I think the Wilbert fits me well in D width because it is by design more roomy than the usual, more dressy, shoe.

I think what you say about the toe area is right; I may find the 2 last too narrow, even in EEE!

I'll probably wait until I have a chance to drive to the AE store and try the style if they have it.

That is a good idea. I do that on my running shoes, but never thought to try it on dress shoes. I wonder how severe a case of bowing it can remedy...

You're welcome.

If the 2-222 last does not fit and you are after a sleeker looking shoe, try the 3-333 lasted styles. I intended to buy a pair of Rutledges because I liked the shape, but could not get a good fit - I found it to be too roomy.

I would definitely recommend you make the trip to an AE store to try on the 2-222. I think if you call ahead they can order in some sizes they might not ordinarily carry, should you need. Good luck and hopefully it fits. Also, feel free to snap a pic of the grey, I would love to see what it looks like in the wild.
