ahhhhhh for 2 years i have lusted over walnut strands...over those 2 years more and more people have bought them from different forums...though i do admit I've only seen them in the wild 3-5 times. Do i buy them before the deal is over? have merlot mcallisters and black pas i just bought a week or so ago.

Id rather a brown shoe as I have a walnut wingtip from sebago i wear a lot...granted its not of the same quality but it serves its purpose.

Go ahead and buy the Walnut Calf Strands.  Out of the AE shoes I own, it gets the most compliments.

All this talk about the walnut strands...

Currently I have the following 3 in my rotation for work:

-5A in black (cap toe)

-Players in black (wing tip blucher)

-Brown Magnannis (oxford captoe)

I'm currently looking for a casual pair in a lighter shade to go with jeans or chinos.  I've been debating between the tan mctavish and the elgin...

As much as I like the strands, i've been completely ignoring it as I feel it would be too close to the mctavish/elgin in terms of design and casual purpose.  But since I have yet to decide between the mctavish/elgin, I wonder if I should throw the walunt strands back in the mix.  Price wise they are very close...mctavish $200, elgin $220, strands $220.

Anyone care to share their suggestion?  Thanks.

I'm actually about to purchase both the Walnut Strands and the Tan McTavish.  To me, they serve very different purposes as I would probably never wear the Strand with jeans or in a "casual" scenario.  The McTavishes fill that role.  The Strand would be more of a "business casual" shoe, or perhaps a shoe I'd wear with my navy suit to less stuffy events.

yea, that's the reason why i didn't consider the strands..i thought it was closer to the business casual than the weekend casual look.  However, now I'm wondering if I can pull off the jeans/chinos + strands look hah

I bought the park avenues and wore them to the funeral for about 4 hours and I kept looking down and wasn't too impressed frown.gif

I know they are black shoes but has anyone else had the same experience?

Bull the cap toe on the PA and it will be slightly more interesting.

You might want to try using straight bar lacing on the Strands (without the laces crossing underneath). I almost sent my 9Ds back, but fearing my heels would slip in the 9Es I tried straight bar lacing and the shoes have gone from feeling too tight to merely "fitted".

It is very strange that you are a half size smaller in the Strand. Your Strands may be too small, or your McTavishes too big. Both shoes are built on the same last, but the McTavish, being made out of a tougher leather, does not fit as tightly around the last, and therefore runs a bit big.

well the short cap toe on the PAs makes them look funny.

That said, I'm pretty much disappointed whenever I wear black shoes (have cheaney captoe oxfords and alfred sargent premier loafers). They are just uninteresting and generic. Unless its an outfit that without a doubt requires black shoes, I tend to regret it. maybe thats why I have 2 pairs of black shoes and 25+ Brown or burgundy.

Macneil in brown...that would be an ideal what gives why only walnut and black...and still no brown in shell offerings?

Bought a pair the Walnut Strands and am looking for a reasonably priced belt to got with them.  I'd be wearing these with dress pants as well as jeans and ideally have one belt that would work for both.  1" seems too small (lgc dress belts generally this size) and 1.5" a bit big (ae belts).

I'm still looking at Leather Goods Connection as an option...will their "work belt" (1.25") be suitable and if so, would you go with tan or medium brown as best match for the Strands?  I've bought a darker bridle belt from there and it is of high quality.  Also, any other options?  I've looked at J&M also and that might also work.
