Shell in natural lighting is even better... i can't help but look at my shoes when i'm walking to my car after work and i'm outside with the sun shining.... effing gorgeous

So I just ordered a pair of walnut strands, because i've been lusting for them for about a year now.  The thing is, i have fifth aves in walnut, and while they're beautiful, I've been thinking about polishing them with brown wax to darken them up and make my shoe collection a little more versatile once i get these strands.

Does this sound like a decent plan?  Anyone tried this before?

Oh and one other question - I really like the kenilworth shoes, but despite their being made on the 5 last they're too long in my size (10d), and too short in a 9.5 (I only tried them on once in a 9.5 tho, i might try a different pair to test it out).  I don't see any other AE plain toes that i like, so can someone recommend a similar shoe that i might be able to find to fit (if I cant find a pair in 9.5 or 10 that work for me).

Thanks alot.

I just placed an order for a pair of the new brown/walnut Broadstreet webgems.   They look pretty sharp in the picture and AE shoes usually end up looking better to me than they did in the picture when I open the box.  2-3 weeks is when it said to expect them.

Get the 9.5's and break them in for a couple weeks, they will be fine.  I can't see how a half size would be THAT much of a different.  Wear thinner/thicker socks to make up for whatever tiny adjustment you need if you really like those shoes.

As for the polish.  I haven't done it, but I have read up a bit on it a little.  Personally I would keep both the way they are... Walnut is such a great color, especially for both of those shoes.  At some point down the line, change it up and get a brown/merlot, and then add on from there.  (merlot mcallister cough cough)

My wardrobe doesn't fit the brown/walnut Broadstreets... however that is a sexy shoe.  Awesome purchase, you better whore out some pics when you get them, I'm dying to see them in action.

Thanks alot - i'm gonna take my time and see if I can find a pair in 9.5 that are close enough to break in.

As for the fifth aves - they really are gorgeous in walnut, so maybe i'll leave them as is.  Thanks again.

Yes, the difference in length between half sizes is about 1/5 of an inch.  If you're going from 9.5D to 10D the 10D has much more girth.  You may want to try a 10C.  What is your foot measurement?

Its a shame that the nordstrom sale only has the players shoe in black.

I think I would be all over it in a brown tone.

Hey guys, I'm looking to purchase my first pair of AE's before I start work in a few weeks and was wondering if you guys had any advice. I was originally looking at a simple pair of Black PA's but my job calls for business casual pretty routinely so I was wondering if these might be a little too "Dressy" for standard business casual. After looking around on their site I really like the look of either the Merlot PA's or the Brown Fifth Avenues and was wondering if anyone else had any suggestions. I like the look of the Strands I just don't want anyone at the firm to think of me as too presumptious wearing them as a first-year employee.

Well right now the Black PA and the Walnut strand are both at pretty unbeatable prices for first-quality at the nordstrom sale.

The PA's are still ok in some normal wool pants without a suit. I wouldn't wear them with khakis (well, I wouldn't wear black shoes with khakis...and probably not bals) but I wear the PAs all the time in my business casual office.
The strands would also be fine but the black PA is probably a better "first shoe" since you can put it on the next time you have to go to a wedding, funeral, interview, or presidential inauguration.

Do not spend anytime thinking about this (bold text). If they think something along these lines, it is their problem, not yours.

FWIW, while one can never go wrong with the Black PA, it is worth mentioning that it is generally considered the most formal shoe AE makes. For business casual, you may wish to purchase a blucher, not a balmoral - perhaps the Delray.

Thanks, will actually probably end up going for either the Black or Chili Delray for the sake of versatility and being able to wear it in different situations.

I hesitate to post this, because I sound like a broken record. But I am a big fan of the Clifton - in brown if you can find it. You can get by with a suit, and it works really well with business casual.

Does the Walnut classic wide belt match the Walnut Strands?

Review on Nordstrom says no but I would think it would be a pretty good match lol ?
The belt shouldn't match the shoes exactly. Similar color, yes, mostly. Similar material is nice but not necessary.
