If you wear jeans a lot, either color would be good. If you don't wear jeans that often, I would suggest going with the tan.

I am curious to hear how much patina develops on the black McTavish. It looks like it has some from the factory, which makes it more interesting to me than other black shoes.

I actually saw a display shoe at the AE store in Charlotte, NC.  The sole on that one was a standard AE single leather sole.

Wilberts today -- freshly resoled from B. Nelson, hence the snow-white stitching -- with linen trousers and matchy socks:

Just received the Brown and Walnut Cordovan Strand's that I ordered on Monday and I can't stop staring at the photos I took before I had to go back to work.

The brown ones look absolutely perfect. The walnut's have a minor stitching flaw that should be no problem for a cobbler to fix up. With these being a limited run and the only one's in my size, I wouldn't dare send them back.

None. It's waxy leather.

Walnut shell all the way. Very nice. The calf needs some polishing.

Nice Strands!! The dark brown shell Strand is the best shoe AE makes, IMO. While the walnut shell Strand is equally as nice looking (in some settings, perhaps better), it is not nearly as versatile for traditional business attire. This is not speculation - I have the dark brown shell Strand and the walnut (calf) Strand. Some would even say the walnut Strand is seasonal, but I don't go that far.

Both of the shell Strands have become my new favorite AE's instantly. The brown, as has been stated before, is a very underrated color in both calf and cordovan.

My calf Strands are definitely needing a good polish...I work as an Engineer in a manufacturing facility, so they acquire a good amount of dust/dirt on each wearing. I'm currently awaiting some Saphir cream, since the AE stuff is a bit too dark for my taste. I have no problem wearing the walnuts in to the office, since we have a very casual dress policy here, but if I wore a suit and tie every day, I'd probably feel a bit different.

I meant no criticism, just that it's an unfair comparison shot since they can be polished up to be equally stunning next to the shells, heh. Would love to own all 3. biggrin.gif

No objection here. All 3 are very nice and, as to polishing, just to be clear, that was something I did not comment on.

The walnut shell was a limited run? Where did you get them?
You can probably still get the walnut shell MTO (i.e. for more money). I will investigate this when I get a chance.
