I'm trying to find something < $300 that has a clean moc-toe and a nice shape. I don't like the split-toe look of the AE's, but might be willing to deal with it if I can find one where the split toe is very subtle.
I'm thinking of this Meermin, but not sure that I want to gamble on it fitting with the cost of shipping and returns.

These LaSalles are pretty ugly I think:

Not sure I understand what you are looking for.  That Meermin is also a split toe and has a very rounded toe (Rui last).  If you are looking for something sleeker than the Delray or without a split toe, that Meermin is not it.

For AE's, what's the rule when going from slip on loafers vs. laceups? Size up or down? I can't remember if slip on loafers tend to be tighters or looser in the vamp area. I'm looking into my first foray into AE loafers purchased online so I don't have the opportunity to try on.

I'd recommend ordering 2 or 3 loafers close to your size. If you are buying stock (not irregular/factory seconds), then it should be no problem returning from companies like Zappos or something. Not sure if AE has free return shipping though.

does anyone have a recommendation for a belt that matches the walnut cliftons? can't find anything quite orangey enough.

I just ordered a pair of Williams seconds and a pair of Elgin I found for $150.  They will be my fourth and fifth pairs of AE!!

I got mine from Coach some time ago.

I have a pair of Kenwoods and a pair of Catskiils and went TTS for both of them.

Is there any sort of return policy with seconds?  I'm assuming that since they are "seconds" and therefore have imperfections, that there would be no returns allowed.

Where'd you get the Elgin for that cheap?

Unworn and within 30 days I believe.  Check with shoebank before placing order.

Not true. I Bought seconds at an outlet and returned them because they didn't fit well. No issue. Just be aware of the Sellers return policy before buying.

I got a belt for <$20 on Ebay. Check Ebay. Under search type tan belt and your size. It may not be a perfect match but it will be close enough. Even AEs belts don't color match perfectly.

Does the Shoe Bank still have an EBay store? I can't seem to find it.

^^^Beautiful collection!

I have a pair of Strands in 11B and they fit great.  If I'm going from those (5 last) to a pair of Bayfields that are on the 1 last, would I need to change the sizing/width at all?  I would try them on, but it will likely be an online purchase.
