I always appreciate it when people post pics of their AEs, so here's another shot of my snuff suede Neumoks.

Those somehow look much sleeker than my Elgins.

I find the unlined suede to be really comfortable. I suppose there might be a trade off there with durability, versus a lined version. People are always raving about unlined suede Alden chukkas, though, and I've never heard anyone complain about their durability. We'll see how it plays out...

Here's a crappy picture of them next to my Strands and PAs, and below is a picture of my Strands like the one above of my Neumoks. You can notice a difference in the toes of the Neumoks versus the Strands. Here they suggest that Neumoks are more sleek than other 5 last AEs. I find the Neumoks to fit a bit more snug than my Strands and PAs, though they are just as (if not more) comfortable due to the unlined suede.

I use a combination of Walnut polish and Cognac (the lightest shade of polish Allen Edmonds offers). I will generally polish them twice with the cognac for every one time with the walnut. Supposedly, if you only use walnut, you will end up darkening them a bit over time. Adding cognac to the rotation keeps the color light.

Some people will do cognac on the shoe, and then polish the toe cap with walnut to make it darker than the rest of the shoe.

Edit: Also, I believe the sole is "natural" so the edge dressing they suggest is uncolored. This is fine, except when trying to fix areas that may have scraped or chipped a little bit. In those cases, you should use the Chili edge dressing, as it is almost identical in color to the natural edge.

Thanks! That is very helpful.

I wanna purchase my first pair of AE soon.. either on the current sale with the AE sale OR with the nordstrom sale on the 20th. Now the problem is.. I like the elgin, which is onsale for 219 right now.. I heard the McTavish will also be onsale at the Nordstrom sale. I want a casual shoe, obv color is a big factor, if i get the lighter color, which one should I get?

Another thing is I am out of the continental North america for another 6 wks, before I go back to canada. The stores here will not have my size(11-12D), so I pretty much have nothing to go own. The only thing standard I own is a pair of wolverine 1000 Mile boots, which I believe is 11D, and it fits good. So thats the only thing I have to base it.. so what size should I get my AE at?

Can anyone recommend a moc-toe shoe as an alternative to the AE Delray / Lasalle?

I'm trying to find something < $300 that has a clean moc-toe and a nice shape. I don't like the split-toe look of the AE's, but might be willing to deal with it if I can find one where the split toe is very subtle.

I'm thinking of this Meermin, but not sure that I want to gamble on it fitting with the cost of shipping and returns.

These LaSalles are pretty ugly I think:

So I wanted to buy some AE Park Ave in black and Strand's in walnut  at the Nordstrom anniversary sale. I figured out you need to get one of their credit or debit cards, then you can pre-order them at your local store. This helps ensure availability and is more pleasant than shoppnig during crazy sale times.

So I pre-ordered the above shoes. But I noticed something on the Park Ave's - the toe caps were crooked. I took a picture and you can see how the line of the toe cap tilts toward the heel as you move to the inside of the shoe.

There was also an extra "crease" on the line of the captoe on the left shoe so the salesman said he would get me a different pair by mail order.

I look at several other AEW shoes they had on display and they were all crooked. I had a pair of AE captoes years ago but don't remember this.

Has anyone else noticed this on their Park Ave's?

Is this part of the design so when you are standing with your feet pointed slightly outwards ( a normal stance) the toe caps look straight?

This is making me rethink these shoes. Appreciate feedback.

BTW also pre-ordered these Santoni's - twice the price of the PA's even after the sale. Will likely not keep them. But notice the toe caps are straighter.

First time wearing my AE Black Bayfields purchased some months ago for $100 during the 2 for 200 sale, already got myself a little scuff on the toe:

And a classy bathroom floor photo:

They squeak really badly so hopefully some conditioner will fix that up. Other than that I quite like them, and for $100 for a brand new pair I can't complain.

In answer to the above, I have noticed on the AE shoes I own and have tried on that the toe cap often doesn't seem quite straight. I think a lot of it is just perspective though - looking from the top makes it appear crooked compared to the vamp etc. From front on ie anyone else's point of view, I think they would actually look normal.

Quick question about the upcoming Nordstrom Sale. Do some AE sizes go oos online before the sale opens to the public (i.e. non Nordstrom cc holder)?
