picked up my second pair of AE's this time I went the used ebay route, still learning about shoes. I needed something in black, liked the color of these. How do you guys think I did? I feel like I got a pretty decent price on slightly used AE's?

http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/allen-edmonds-players-wingtip-oxford-men/3170711#BVRRWidgetID

here are the exact ones I bought for $140!!!

http://www.ebay.com/itm/270927684151?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649

besides all the anti AE's out there, what do you gentlemen think?

It's a good deal, although you can find those for 100 brand new in some Nordstrom Racks. 140 is still a good price tho.

This is all fine, assuming they fit you well. That is the hardest part, with used & unseen shoes...

Sorry if this has been posted here before (a quick search didn't turn up anything), but I have been looking at the AE Strand, and today I'm checking out the BB website looking their medallion perforated captoe in walnut calf:

I was under the assumption that made in USA Brooks Brothers shoes were by Alden. But this BB shoe looks exactly like the strand. Is it an AE shoe?

Yes, those are AEs. They started doing this about a year ago. There was a lot of discussion about possibly having supply and maybe price issues with Alden, but whatever the case, they now have a bunch of AEs. They didn't change much - just the heel insole and the outer rubber portion of the sole, I think. You can tell from the heel design and the shoe itself, if you recognize it as AE.

Thank you! Now a follow up......any difference whatsoever between buying this from BB vs AE? I suppose no recrafting program would be one issue, correct? I've been waiting to pull the trigger on some AE strands, hoping to find a sale, but not willing to wait until the Nordstroms sale in the summer. BB is having a one day 30% off sale for corporate card holders on 3/15/2012 so its tempting to go that route.

I don't know about the recrafting program, but i don't know why it wouldn't apply. I'm sure you could call AE and ask them.

People have said that the poron insole feels different than the regular AE shoes. Other than that and the rubber half sole, I think they're the same.

A year ago, BB said it had not signed up for the refurbishing plan with AE, but that it intended to in the future. Not sure where that stands today, but it's worth a call to BB customer service to ask (maybe AE too). This was enough to dissuade me from buying the BB versions a year ago and to wait for the Nordstrom anniversary sale.

Good info. I didn't know that the retailer had to sign up. If it were me, I'd contact AE about it just to be safe.

I wonder if AE will come out with a simple captoe on the new 3-333 last. I find the park avenue too rounded.
I saw they had the AE Soho but that's been discontinued now.
Other wise I'd be looking at the C&J Hallam

Today was one of those "perfect timing" days. At lunch, I stopped by my local men's clothing / shoe store and the Allen Edmonds sales rep was there with all the new Spring 2012 shoes and some of the new shoes coming in Fall 2012.

Here's a brief summary of my thoughts on a few of the new styles:

Neumok - this shoe looks great, and I really like this shoe in the blue. I might have to get the blue for this summer.

Amok - a bit too unstructured for me - disclaimer, I'm not a big desert boot fan

Harbour - looks very nice in person - really liked the tan

Flatiron - I'm still on the fence on this new 333 last. Couldn't try it on as they didn't have my size, so cannot comment on the fit.

Stewart - looks much better in person than on the website - great looking shoe

Finch - looks great in person - I really like the tan/navy. I didn't really warm up to the brown/red

Jermyn - much better looking in person than on the website. The walnut is beautiful and the brown is not far behind

For Fall of 2012 - I will not give a lot of details as these are not for public consumption and I don't know if they are 100% slated for production, but here are some details on what I saw for the new Fall 2012 shoes:

A new wingtip boot that is on my "must have" list. Not as tall as the Bayfield, but taller than the Cascade.

A casual blucher that looks similar to the MacNeil - very nice

Some new McTavish colors - one of which is on my "must have" list

Some new leather colors/textures/finishes that are great looking. This is in both the dress classics and the more casual collections.

A definite expansion within the Rough Collection - styles, colors, textures, etc. They look very good.
