What is the distinction between Allen Edmonds' Independence Collection and their normal line? I see almost no difference despite the bi colored sole, vintage logo, and wheeled sole edges. Is the leather any better? For example, what makes the Harrison model $130 more than the Park Avenue? I've also noticed that the independence models never go on sale. Is it worth it to buy the full priced Independence models vs similar Allen Edmonds that can be found for $200~?

Softer leathers, lambskin lining, and presumably more attention/work in finishing as far as the burnishing I saw on a pair of Rutledges. I don't think the line is worth the $500 they're charging, as Northampton shoemakers and Carmina offer superior products at lower costs.

With the discontinuation of the Westchester, the Patriot or Randolph is about all they have left. But try them on - I can't get my foot in either one due to my high instep.

YMMV - I have a very high instep, and the Patriot works for me. The cordovan is more pliable than calf after a few wears and breaks in well.

Spoke with an AE rep and she stated that some times people's feet don't work well with the thinner leather of the PA's. The rear of the strands have that border around the top line of the quarter, maybe that's why they fit great on me and don't warp. I guess I'll trade them for Black Strands. Black McAllisters seem a little too busy for me.

There's also the Sanford, but that may be discontinued or only sold at Nordies (cant remember). I've seen the Madison Ave at nordstrom rack. I'm pretty sure they don't make that anymore.

FWIW the Sanford, at least mine, is a half brogue blucher.

I ordered Dublin leather Bayfields four weeks ago with a few tweaks. Received an email from Allison five minutes ago:

I just spoke to my manufacturing team. They informed me that they had tried to create your boot in the English tan Dublin leather, because of the way they originally made the topline it turned out very wavy. We wanted to ask if it was ok to use a raw edge around the topline instead of a binding. If we use a raw edge it would eliminate the waviness around your ankle. Please let me know if this is acceptable.

Stick around this thread on the days leading up to BF and you'll get a full run down. Typically, the outlets run a sale on specific shoes, usually pretty good deals. As is mentioned elsewhere on this thread, the best bet is to get a full list of everything that they have in your size and see what makes sense for you. Last year, I got a pair of bourbon Mcallisters for $99.

Also, some of the outlets stay open all night, with extra good deals available from midnight to 4 or something like that. Phone orders are of course taken too. I remember getting a pair of 5th street boots for $99 a few years back on that deal.

I remember that too...fxcking ridiculous.
