Does AE have a sale coming up? I went in to the local AE about 2 months ago and he said there was one some time in the next few months...well that is coming up. Trying to pick up some strands.

Little disappointed after your story when I went to pick up my Fifth Street boots today. Brought a pair of gently used Timberland captoe bluchers in so I could get the $35 discount also, but they didn't allow me to apply the discount towards the boots because they were clearance.
For any New Yorkers, this was the Rockefeller store on 6th ave down the street for Radio City Hall. Oh well. Ended up leaving the Timberland shoes anyway, as it seems like a good cause and I wasn't wearing them.
BTW, for those of you that have Fifth Street boots, how far up do you lace? Seems pretty hard to get the boot on with it laced to the top.

They weren't going to let me do it either. I called the Shoe Bank in Port Washington and asked if they had any Fifth Aves left. They had one in my size luckily. I told the sales woman on the phone that I could type the honor code in on the internet and it would let me order the Fifth Streets at the discount but they did not have my size, so she agreed to take the price off. Gotta love the customer service.

AE outlets recently had a two for $200 deal so you may get lucky with something like that in the coming months before the summer.

^ this.

I scooped up 2x Lasalles in chili and in black off that deal

Hmm. I was contemplating the Alden Cigar Chukkas, but I think I like the color of these Cappuccino Dundees better. Damn, if only I could see them in person right now.

Good question. Maybe AE will update the last info page. Maybe they won't. Is there a particular shoe you're having sizing issues with? Have you measured your feet with the downloadable AE fit guide? What sizes of shoe, if any, have you tried on?

I have a couple of 5 last shoes (Park Ave, Strand, Elgin) that fit perfectly in 11.5D.

So I thought I'd give the Player's Shoe on the 2 last a go and it's been very frustrating. 12D fit ok but there was heel slippage, 11.5D felt tight since it's such a narrow shoe. About ready to call it quits on this last.. and AE's website is useless for describing the fit.

I went through the exact same thing, and finally returned my player's yesterday. I had the walnut player's in 12D and they were too long and narrow on my right foot. The salesguy at Nordstrom's suggested I try to wear them in. So I gave it a shot for a couple of weeks, but they still felt uncomfortable-- heel slipping and pinching the toes. I was going to try and trade them in for an 11.5E, but they apparently don't make that size for these shoes. Luckily, Nordstrom's has a very liberal return policy, so I just got a refund. It's too bad-- I really liked the looks of those shoes. (And the 5 last fits me perfectly as well at 12D)

Ah, I see. I'll be trying on the Players Shoe next weekend. I'm preparing myself to be frustrated by the narrow toe box. Sizing is limited which makes it more complicated. My only suggestion would be to try the 12B or 11.5E.

When you say the 11.5D is tight, do you mean tight all over? Or just tight in the toe box? Are your toes touching the front of the shoe? etc.

This may not be the appropriate place, but I figured this thread would definitely be the group who would know. I recently, upon the recommendations of this forum, purchased two pair of AE Park Aves, one in black and one in merlot. I'm in the slow process of building a young(ish) professional wardrobe, and these are my first pair of real dress shoes.

I went to my local AE store and was sized. We initially arrived at a 10.5C, but that felt just a little loose and I was concerned about leather stretching. We then tried a 10.5B which seemed to fit like a glove in the store (black). I've only worn the merlot pair out once since purchasing, and for a few hours around the house. After a day of wearing them, my feet hurt so bad, especially my pinky toes, that I could barely walk. Now, I notice an uncomfortable pressure on the outside ball of my foot and my pinky toe as soon as I put the shoes on. I've noticed a slight difference in where the pressure is between each pair, but neither is comfortable.

I contacted the AE store, and they assured me that this was normal. However, they offered, if I would wear them around the house a few more evenings, to first attempt to stretch the shoes, and then exchange them if I am not happy. Basically, I'm hoping if someone can give me an tips for how they should feel. Is it normal for them to be this uncomfortable while breaking them in? If I put them on and then sit in a chair, I am definitely aware of pressure on my feet. I'm really like a lot of AE shoes and am more than willing to go through the discomfort of breaking them in, but if this is not normal and indicates the wrong size, I'd rather get them exchanged sooner rather than later.

I've had some discomfort breaking in shoes, but I'd never say I could "barely walk." Maybe take them up on it if you feel like, but pain like that says "wrong size" to me.

During my various fittings at Nordstrom and the AE store, I had to learn a way of describing the fit of the shoes. For example, to assess girth, I look at how much take up I have in the laces. If I have to cinch the laces all the way to get a snug fit, the shoe probably has too much girth. Conversely, if I have to let the laces out all the way to put the shoe on and I can only cinch the laces a little bit before it becomes tight, then the shoe is probably too small/narrow. Of course these are at the opposite extremes. Ideally, I'd like to be somewhere in the middle.

For length, I try to land the ball of my foot at the widest part of the shoe. If your small toes are hitting the edge of the shoe, this may not be a width problem. It may be a length issue. So it's good to know how much space you have between the front of your toes and end of the shoe as well as the top of your toes and the roof of the shoe.

I look at length & girth first, and then use that zero in on width. As long as the toe box is comfy and the heel is snug, then the width is good. One other helpful observation is creasing in the instep. In shoes that are too wide for my feet, I've noticed that the instep creases significantly when I put weight on my foot. A small crease seems to be OK, but a deep crease or multiple small creases probably means the shoe is too wide.

Anyhow, I wish everyone the best of luck finding a good fit in their AE shoe of choice. If you have fit questions, the more details you can provide, the easier it will be to offer suggestions.

Folks, I have a question concerning the fit of my AE Danbury's (5 last). These are my first pair of balmorals, these sized 7.5D, and I'm wondering if the spreading of the quarters due to my high instep is acceptable in the pics below. The shoes feel very good in the heel and ball, snug but not tight, but I'm wondering if this looks bad and if I can expect any problems long term. I haven't broken in the shoes yet, just walked on carpet without flexing the front. PS: I'm aware of the various posts on this subject elsewhere on styleforum (which are overall inconclusive).
