Does anyone wear walnut Lombards or Strands with slim jeans? Does this look work well??

I wear the strands with jeans. You have to be careful to avoid the cowboy look, but with the right jeans, sportcoat, etc it looks just fine.

This is walnut I'm assuming

I do it just about everyday. Everyone on SF says to stay away from the cowboy look, but this is a ridiculous comment. What cowboy wears brogues? True the walnut color might look slightly western, but its not big enough problem to "warn" people about.

What do you guys think of the Elgin?

Really nice shoe. I had a tough time choosing between it and the McTavish. Since I was looking for something a shade more casual I chose the McTavish but was tempted to get both.

I just received the Bayfield in the mail, bought during the sale for $200. Bought size 14D and it fits great! This is my first shoe nicer than Clarks Desert Boot.

Now I just need to pick up some insoles; I wear prescription orthotics in my running shoes but the full size makes the toe box too tight in the Bayfield (and Clarks DB). Is there any real difference between buying the Superfeet black and trimming it, or just buying the black 3/4 length?

I contacted Superfeet about that same issue, and the answer is no. Cutting back the Black model is no different than going with the 3/4. The only difference is the top cover.

CORRECTION

The Black model is slightly narrower.

I have a question. I bought a pair of walnut players at nordstroms 10.5 D which feel tight. Unfortunately these shoes only come in EEE width as the next width up. How big is the difference in widths? I see that Allen edmonds claims 3/16th of an inch per width. This would make it a little over half of an inch. Would that make it too loose if I size down to a 10 EEE ? All help is appreciated bc I would have to get them shipped and there are no Allen edmonds near me. Thanks in advance

The 3/16 difference is pretty accurate. You have to remember that changing the width from E to EEE also changes the girth of the shoe. This changes the fit dramatically. I discovered this while trying various Park Avenues in the #5 last. The #2 last, Players Shoe, is similar but tighter in the toe box (as I've posted previously). I can't tell you more than that. The good news is that Nordstrom has a liberal return policy, and they can special order sizes if you ask.

Whoa whoa whoa !!!! Lol what do you mean Nordstroms can special order sizes? If they only offer D & EEE can I have them order an E? And secondly, what do you mean that the width changes the girth? What is shoe girth referring to? Thanks:)

I also use superfeet, but is it possible to trim them from the sides? They're a bit wide as I wear B/C width shoes

I was chatting with a person in Nordstrom's men shoes today, and she indicated they can do special orders, and get you anything out of the AE catalog. I've noticed some AEs I order from Nordstrom drop ship to me directly from Port Washington, so I think they have a good working relationship. Worth talking to them if you don't live near an AE store.

@hermmj & @ phipsi: cool i appreciate the help.

Now can anyone explain what shoe girth means? i cant seem to find a solid answer on this online.
And if im a 10E in the 5 last, since the 2 last has a smaller toe box, shall i expect to wear a wider shoe in the 2 last vs the 5?

It's up in the air for me between these and the McTavish. I wish the McTavish was a long wing then it would be an easy choice. I am getting the Fifth Streets soon, so the Elgin might be too similar to those, capped toe with medallion.

Decisions, decisions...

I picked up a pair of rough collection MacNeil longwings over the holidays. I'd love to see them in the same finish as the Elgin...

And I would love to see those rough collection MacNeil's get re-issued. Those and a Soho in merlot/oxblood would be impossible to resist.
