Where did you pick them up? What size are you normally in dress shoes? I'm waiting on my kenilworth as well

Where does one find the kenilworths for such a price?

 

The rough leather of the McTavish doesn't fit as tightly to the last during fabrication as compared to calf.  So the fit will be a little looser.

 

 

The brown Neumok looks better in real life.  The AE website photos are horrible.  All their shoes look better in person.

 

Would you say the pictures on Endless are more representative to what you'd get?

i'm sure this has been discussed before - which shoe trees are you guys using or prefer?

I have a few nordstrom rack combination woodlore trees but thinking of trying epic

I don't know how much difference this really makes, but I like trees that are wide enough to fill out the heel area and have a higher vamp to fill out the front. I've started to only use trees such as the Epic or the Washburn or Ultra. I don't like the spilt trees with the narrow heels that are sold on the AE site.

Again, it may be overkill. But just seems better to me.

me neither lol.  i agree though i like the heel area wide on the tree because the trees i have now are very narrow.

 - only thing i'm worried about on epic trees is that brass knob breaking off or coming loose. anyone run into that issue?

Agreed. The brown Neumok is amazing looking in person!  I want 'em, but I wouldn't wear with anything but jeans or casual chinos. 

 

No, you really have to see them in person to appreciate the texture and depth of color.  I bought the red Neumok, but it was hard not to get one of each.  The colors are rich and unique.  Trickers makes some great colored brogues but they lack the texture of the Neumok.  I don't know how else to describe it.

I prefer Rochester shoe trees (they make the Alden & Brooks Brothers shoe trees) for the wider heel area. I do have one set of Epic shoe trees and it has worked well. It's fairly easy to loosen the knob though, but I never felt it was in danger of breaking. For what it's worth, the knobs on my Carmina shoe tree can be loosened about as easily as the Epic knob.

I have tress with and without the brass knob, and I've started to prefer it over the wooden notch. I've found it's much easier to maneuver the tree into the shoe. And they do tend to loosen due to unscrewing a bit, but you just twist them tight every once in a while.

The Rochester shoe trees are the Washburn, right?

J&M also sells those, and at their outlets you can often get them for 2/$35, I think, which is a great deal. Plus J&M has zillions of outlets, compared to AE's two or three. They are great, though I wish the heel was even a little wider still. But I take these over the ones AE sells any day.

This is how I feel about the Alden LWB. I work in a more conservative environment and the Neumok is too casual so I have all the LWB colors. At the Neumok price point and style, they are hard to beat.

For me, and this is due to the dynamics of my feet, I actually prefer the split toe and narrow heel trees instead of the Epic. I use the Epic on my Alden Barrie shoes because the heel is wide enough there but since my actual heels are relatively narrow, I prefer trees that do not stretch the heel area of my shoes. I also have a low instep so I really do not need trees that support the vamp. Finally, the trees I use are half the price of Epic. This means I can allocate the funds for lasted trees for my other shoes
