Correct. It's a German derivation, from a last name of a military man if memory serves me correctly here.

I just call them Derbys. It's easier to pronounce.

The MacNeil's in walnut grain arrived today:



The photo isn't all that great, but they are exactly what I was looking for. The design and grain of the leather make them a step down in formality from the Player's Shoe (which I happened to be wearing today), and the perfect dress down shoe for me. Fit was pretty great as well (both are 14EEE). Leaning toward keeping them. I still really like the black McTavish, maybe this summer...


Wow, the medallions on your 14EEE MacNeils are much further back than on my 10.5Ds. Interesting to see the difference the shoe size makes...

So here is my first pair of AE's, Walnut Players 10.5D. Love them, they are super comfortable. Sorry for the crappy phone pic.
