So I did indeed pass on the burgundy shell Cambridge, bu instead decided to complement my newly acquired merlot McAllisters with merlot Park Avenues.

Thanks to David Copeland I was able to acquire them as well as Well as a Manistee belt in merlot at the Nordstrom anniversary sale price saving me over $150!

Thanks David and Brett at Nordstrom!

How did you do that? I am looking for a pair of merlot Mcallisters too, and I asked both Nordstrom and my local AE store if they would price match the Nordstroms $229 price for the black ones and they both said no.....

My AE store price matched Nordstrom for the merlot McAllisters. Nordstrom service has gone down. AE seems to offer better service.

I went the same size on the Sandersons as my other 5 last shoes, although I do find the Sandersons to be just a bit tighter. At least for me though, I don't think a larger or wider size would have been better. As alternatives you could get the Larchmont. If they are still doing the Style Forum MTO's you could get a walnut Williams or MacNeil. Finally, at the risk of getting flamed for pushing Nordtroms, the walnut Player is an option if you can find your size. Looks like limited sizes left at Nordstroms but maybe you can find a second at the outlets.

Thanks for the advice. I just don't like the shape of the Larchmont. I considered MTO but just didn't want to lay out full price at the moment. In fact I found a few sizes at dsw.com on the Sanderson, $279 for firsts. If they don't fit I can return them to the store down the street.

Hrm... I wonder why it varies from one AE store to the next? I asked them at my local AE and they said they couldn't do it... perhaps I need to work on my negotiating skills :)

Hey NeedAnM3, I see your location is mentioned "Salt Lake City". Are you referring to CityCreek AE? Whom did you talk to.
I was there yesterday, price matched an item which is not on sale with the specifications I wanted. But SA was happy to do price match.

Second MTO landed this week... Fairfax in cappuccino shell.
The Fairfax was what started my love affair with AE as I saw it in a few men's magazines (in chestnut/walnut) and even on a billboard or two near the higher end shopping centers in town. I knew that those were big boy shoes and that one day I would make them mine.
When Paul made the MTO offer, even for discontinued models, the Fairfax immediately came to mind as a must have in a rare shell color.

As with the cappuccino shell Fifths, these were FLAWLESS right out of the box. I have been reading that there have been a lot of rejects in the MTO make ups as of late but assure you it is well worth the wait for the perfect pair.

Last MTO should be landing middle to late next month. Getting very close to having a complete collection... until the new fall line of boots comes out of course.

I was wearing AE Verona bit loafers when I purchased the merlot McAllisters. I don't know if the AE salesguy noticed or if it mattered. I'm planning on buying a couple more AE shoes if the Strands replacements are crease free. I never mentioned my intetntion to buy more so that shouldn't matter in terms of the service the AE store provided.

I am very worried that AE leather is substandard and that is the reason for the creasing. I hoped it was only a run last year during the Nordstrom sale and not an indication of AE sourcing lesser quality leather.

Yes, the one in City Creek. I believe the SAs name was Will? Anyway, I asked if he could PM the merlots and he said they can only PM what is being offered by Nordstrom, which is the walnut Strands and the black McAllisters. What did you price match? Do you remember your SAs name?

I'm interested in those new Promontory Point boots. Can anyone tell me about the new B34 last? The "all about lasts" page is down, of course. Does the B34 run TTS? Similar to another AE last?

AE sales associates absolutely know what you are wearing. Every time I walk into a store, they look down at my shoes just after greeting me. Whether or not this helped with the price match, I have no idea. I think the reason it varies so much from store to store is that there is no official price match policy. It seems it is at the manger's discretion. Some wouldn't even price match on the same models while the sale was still private.

For those wondering about the JAB shoe trees, here is a comparison pic. The only difference I can find is the name in the plate.

I hope that the Alden CEO is reading this thread and taking notes. My respects to Mr. Grangaard for showing Alden that there is indeed stiff competition in the contest for finest American-made cordovan shoes. These are immaculate.

I just got a pair of PA's. Will these marks come out with polishing, or should I exchange them? These are firsts. Also, they're not scratches, I can't actually feel them. They seem to be just discoloration of some sort.
