Not my size, but you should pick that up and flip it to someone here.

Not my size, but I'm literally working in the same building today. That plus Alden here, it's a dangerous combo.

Just got off the phone with an SA from shoebank and when he was asking for my CC details, he requested the 3 digit security number at the back. I've never had to share this with my other purchases before and I felt uncomfortable sharing it. Would like to ask the good folks here if they have ever been asked this info?

Sorry for the paranoia, I've been a victim of CC fraud 2x already and it's a pain the backside to get things sorted out with the CC companies.

I was browsing the shoe bank site today and saw there was a pair of Kenwoods, however they were in the current section. But the description said closeout shoe. So I called up my SA and asked if I could trade a pair from my 2 for pairs for that one since it hadn't shipped yet. He was telling me that they may not have supposed to been included (which I've been told before) since they pulled them down or moved them from the closeout section on the website to current over the weekend. He put in an order to get and said he'd honor the sale price since it was hard to get a hold of him over the weekend. (I've also got a decent order history there)

I got my Cordovan McGraws in from the sale today. I have five pairs of firsts quality shoes from AE and these are my first seconds. I must say that they look really great! They don't even have a seconds mark on the sole! (unless AE puts the mark somewhere else on than on the Redenbach sole?) The only thing that I think could be wrong with them is one shoe is a lighter color than the other. Perhaps it was on display in the sun while the other sat in its box? Anyway, I am not worried about it and will be keeping them for sure.

On the other hand I wasn't as impressed with the Kinilworths. The seconds defects on them aren't bad, but the fit is off and there is excessive bowing at the ankles.

Does anyone know if there is a problem with sending one pair back for a refund in a 2 for $X sale?

I get asked for it all the time.  I wouldn't worry about it if I were you.

There's a lot more choice when it comes to Alden. Pretty much every retailer has its own version of either Alden PTB or dover

  • in: shell, CXL, calf, suede,
  • on: double, flex welt, commando sole
  • with: antique, natural, black, etc. welt

With AE however, you are limited to the stock Leeds, which, IMO are unimpressive. This said, you can MTO your Leeds if you know what you want.

Other things equal, my suggestion would be to go with Alden. PTB in Barrie last look beautiful.

Actually, there's at least one other choice besides the Leeds - the Black Hills.

The San Marco (now discontinued) is another PTB still available through Brooks Brothers for $260. The more i think about it, the more attractive the shoe is as a casual PTD in my opinion. Exposed eyelets, mini lug sole, pebble grain...a nice rugged shoe for beating up. The only problem is that it's not a split reverse welt.

Here is the "flaw" that I found on my Williams 2nds. Would you keep?by2e8eru.jpguvyry2ug.jpgujajapeq.jpgqe8useva.jpgynyqypyj.jpg

Yes to the Williams. No doubt. Also, anyone have the Harrison in walnut? Debating about getting it. With all the talk about rules and contradictions these past few months, is a plain, walnut captoe a shoe worth getting? It would be like getting a walnut Park Ave. Anybody have one of those who wants to share their experience?

Thanks half. With the rate shoes are getting delivered to the house, it appears to my wife that AE IS actually stealing I money off of me anyway.

Yep, this is a pretty standard practice. Don't worry about that at all.

If that's a flaw, you are lucky my friend. I would keep them in a heart beat. But if they are size 10 d, please return them smile.gif

Thanks cincikid and all the other enablers who have chimed in. My wallet is weeping and needs a break before the RDA sale this fall.
