Sweet. This is what I want, but in reference to my earlier post, is the Brooks Brothers version of the Shelton basically the same shoe with a different sole, or is the leather not as good as the AE shoe?
For some of us the Anniversary sale starts in just a few weeks on July 10th. And last year's Anniversary Sale was a whopping 35% off retail. He's likely just talking about the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale they have every summer. July 19-Aug 4 this year.
I think the sole is different, but that's it. These Sheltons are all-shell, by the way.Sweet.

Again, it was just a comment by Brett (who is a Manager at Nordstroms Shoes) - and he has been at Nordstroms for 19 years, owns over 90 pair of very nice shoes (including AE, Alden, etc) - and he mentioned he uses a dress style of the Echo for on his feet all day. I would think others, such as doctors, would be good to visit a Nordstrom Department Store and try on a pair, alongside any of the AE styles to - and make the judgement in person.Interesting.
It's actually difficult for me to categorize any of Ecco's models as "dress" shoes in the traditional sense.
Great advice.I only used the Saphir wax for the job. I was using the Allen Edmonds polish before (the one in the tube with the sponge applicator thing), but I found that the AE polish just wasn't giving the shine I desired. I ordered the Saphir Wax and found the difference to be like night and day.
I apply a little bit of wax to the shoe with a cloth, then dip the same cloth in a tiny amount of water. Add a bit more wax and rub to the now wet cloth onto the shoe. I use another cloth to get most of the polish off. Then I use the saphir buffing cloth to bring out the deep shine. Finally, I get some nylon pantyhose and give it a good once over.
Saphir products are amazing.
Perhaps on some styles, but they have other dress shoes which have a decent stitched-like welt around the top of the sole. That is the type Brett favors. Next time you go to a good store, examine them for yourself - that is if you need a pair for on your feet all day. Otherwise, you would not need to consider Ecco.Or accept the previously suggested notion that Ecco's are indistinguishable from a high quality dress shoe from the normal vantage point. I may not be able to ID the various brands of shoes on the feet of people I meet, but i can usually spot Ecco's from a mile away due to their tennis shoe like characteristics.
An interesting part of this is that it's not even about price. Currently at Nordstroms, if you wanted to pick up a pair of dress shoes, you could choose:
- Ecco Windsor for $229.95
- AE Clifton for $199.90
- AE Players for $223.90.
