Of course this may be different for others but I take the same size and width in both the 5-65 last and the 333 last.  I measure 11.5D to 12D on the Brannock, but I require an 11E for both the AE Park Avenue (5-65 last) and the AE Harrison (333 last).  The 11.5D fit me in width on both lasts, but I felt the length was too long.  When I went down to the 11D on both, they were too narrow at the widest part of my foot, and were both painful.  11E was my best fit even though I have a fairly low instep and can lace both of them nearly completely closed, but they are comfortably snug and I don't mind the closed vamp since I think it looks better to be closed or nearly closed on a balmoral oxford.

Enjoy...these have been one of my favorite purchases...I wear them a ton so I used that Honey Oil stuff on the sole as I am not shy about slapping these on during rain...I recently also applied a very light treatment with Aussie balm to the uppers...again do to them being used in all weather.

FYI, so no one goes jumping off bridges today...just checked the AE website, and no sign of any discontinuation...still available in all sizes without any restrictions.

Cross-posting from MTO thread . . .

Maiden voyage of my black CXL MacNeils:

I'm still on the fence about them.  In case it's not obvious from the pic, the dye doesn't penetrate the leather, so brown shows through the broguing and pinking.  Evidently this is what you get when you get black CXL from AE.  I'm not completely opposed to the look, though, so I've decided to wear them anyway, and if ultimately they end up bugging me too much I'll send them off to B. Nelson to let Nick work his magic.

OTOH, they are comfortable as hell - Poron insole plus sizing up by 1/2 means my feet feel cocooned.

What do you use to protect the linen on the Strawfut? For suede I normally spray it with a suede protector. What do you recommend for the linen? Thanks!

Wearing my first pair of shell shoes ever purchased - faded out Kenwoods.  They need some work after some rain and they need a new soles.  Just like wearing slippers.

Found out today that the Shoe Bank is only so reliable. Any MTO seconds are not listed in inventory and are drastically reduced. Today, I found a pair of brown Leeds with V-tread for $125 dollars. Salesman said that when people place orders for MTOs and they become seconds, there isn't any way to inventory them, so you just have to check out the store and see if they are there. I feel like I got really lucky today.

I was at Mebane, NC. They had a ton of things to choose from that are not on Shoe Bank.

How much were Jeffersons (Independence Line) firsts during the 4th sale?

On the 5-last, I have Walnut Shell Strands in 10.5C. Other than the Shell, they are standard shoes and abide my standard sizing principles. I also have the Jefferson on the 5-last in Shell and I went with 10.5D. The important difference is the lamb skin lining. I have the Harrison, which I MTOed in Black shell that is on the 333-last and I went 10.5D due to the lamb skin lining once again.

If you have any more specifics or questions, please let me know. Sounds like we are the same size though. :-)

Thanks for the detailed reply, Mike & others.

I only own calf 5-65 shoes. A couple in 10.5C and one in 10.5B, one in 10.5D.. The 10.5B is wearable but a tiny bit too tight. 10.5D a bit too loose. 10.5C is perfect.

I live in Australia, so taking chances on sizes isn't really possible for me.

I have been told that, in general, shell shoes fit slightly looser, and so if I was going to get a Cambridge, for example, I'd want a 10.5B.

I was looking at getting a Rutledge in the current sale. Looks like the price has gone back up, but I might be able to get one at the sale price if I act quickly.

So you think that, given the lamb skin lining in the 333, I'd want a 10.5D? Funnily enough another poster said he went for a narrower width on the 333 than the 5-65, so that'd be a 10.5B facepalm.gif

People say that shell shoes fit bigger than calf, and that the Independence lining takes up lots of extra room in the shoe, but I haven't found either to be the case.

The Independence Insole might make a fraction of a difference in fit, but I have both the Jefferson and Rutledge and have found them to fit identically to my Strand and Neumora.
