How does Cheaney stack up to AE and Carmina?  Assuming sales for all 3 companies are available.

For $300 (Cheaney), it's roughly $60 more expensive than AE ($240) and $150 cheaper than Carmina ($450). Thoughts?

I will admit that aside from the dent, I was going to overlook everything. The dent just has me worried because as far as I know, I can't just fix it or patch it up somehow. And I'm worried about rain as well as it getting bigger over time.

I got them for $399 during the sale so it's definitely a good price. I was contemplating waiting for another sale to get them again if I really was uncomfortable keeping these. Do any of you have experience with having them send a second pair? I've read that for some, if the seconds they received had some defects that they didn't like, they had another pair sent out. Do you have to pay restocking fees for this?

Thanks again!

I really couldn't see the crack that you say is on the 1st pix. I would recommend that you keep.

Ie if I am at 10.5C in the 5-65, what am I likely to be in the 333?

I take same size, smaller width from 65 last to 333 last. So my guess is that you'll be 10.5b.

I'm with cool arrow, I can't see the Crack from the picture either. You can try to see if they have another pair in stock. Customer service is always great with AE so they'll work with you on that.
They have sent me a second pair from the outlets before with a prepaid shipping label so I can send one back. I didn't get charged for the restocking fee but that's just because my SA was being nice. Even if you are getting charged 10 for the fee, I think it's still worth it, for the piece of mind.

How can you not see it? It is clearly a crack in the shell on the vamp.

I originally thought that it was a piece of lint caught in the finish.

It is the length of 2 stitches ... based upon the roll/crease pattern in my long- and short-wing tip shoes/boots, I don't foresee it growing in length.

I'm thinking of maybe doing what you did actually.. Get the Strands in walnut, and the Macallisters in bourbon. Seems like a great combo to have and it varies the wardrobe a bit. For me, I feel the Rush Streets might be a bit too casual as I've already got quite a few casual shoes/boots at hand. Thanks again.

Sounds like a good plan.  My Macs and Strands are two of three pair of "dressier" AE shoes (the other being black Hastings).  All other pairs are casual and mostly suede (I work in a business casual environment).

Here is one you don't see very often - Bridgeton in the color AE used to call Bourbon.

Got my rutledge seconds in today but notice the heel has torn stitching on either side of the right heel. Because it looks like it would be structural to the heel I figured I should return them. Thoughts? [IMG]

I don't like it.

A competent cobbler could repair them but they will always have a structural defect (first pic).

I would send back if it were me.

Yea, that first pic looks pretty rough. I've got some Ruts inbound to my SA's store. If he doesn't have them he gets them in first to check them out. Why he gets my business.

The same SA I have been using is the one who sent me this too.  He's a manager at Port Washington too.

Question regarding the AE Strand to the AE experts on this forum:. I notice on the AE site they have the Strand 'with combination Tap Sole". Does it make sense to get THEIR tap sole? Or does it make more sense to have one third party installed? Any thoughts? I need a shoe/sole that can handle a bit of wet pavement. I don't know much about shoes generally, so just seeing if there's are any positives/negatives of one over the other. Thx.
