Just curious ... what has been less than ideal about the last?

The 1 last is rather tricky for me too. I think it's rather unforgivingly true to size (feet are different lengths and widths).

I think in the future if I want a new shoe on that last I need to order 2 different sizes.

The 5 and 3 lasts are more forgiving due to the extra length in the toebox.

I've been looking at AE Strands online lately and I'm wondering if anyone would have any reservations about the Bourbon colour as opposed to Walnut? Walnut seems to get a ton of love on this forum. What do you guys think of the Bourbon colour? I'm looking for a shoe that could work with jeans/khakis yet okay for a little dressier too. Lastly, where's the best place these days for sales/deals on the AE Strand? As it is, I live in the UK (although I'm American) and the exchange rate is pretty good for the pound right now. But still looking for a resonable deal. Thanks very much.

Oh.. another question if I may.. Living in London, being that it rains every now and then, would these look okay with the V tread tap sole? thx.

I have Walnut Strands and Bourbon Macallisters.  I actually like the Bourbon color more - the Walnut seems a bit too orange for me.  Don't get me wrong, I really like my Strands, however, if forced to choose I'd take bourbon.  If khakis and jeans are your primary thing I'd actually go for Rush Streets.

Kids were busy painting for a bit, so I did some quick Mac action on the Parks and Strands. The parks are getting better. Got just about all the black (!!???) polish off of them.

Just noticed something about Park Aves. I got these for $299 as seconds, but there ain't a thing off about them, and there are no stamps on the soles. Just a preliminary roll on each right where all my shoes always crease. Methinks I got a great bargain...

Disappointed because I want to wear these new PA's! Guess I'll see if I can find something decent at the mall this weekend.

The Manistee belt from AE in Walnut is a perfect match. I own it and wear it with my walnut shoes all the time.

The Shoe Mart carries a lot of belts and they even have some natural CXL belts on sale. The belt I'm talking about though is here http://www.theshoemart.com/allen-edmonds-mens_manistee_belt_walnut_calf/p-mxab-74090_all_m_manistee_belt.html

I have and love the Manistee in Bourbon to match my Strands. Not sure how it will look with the Park Avenues though.

Hi Scotty, Thanks for your reply. All good ideas to take on board. I know what you mean about the walnut being a bit on the orange side, but so many people rave about the compliments they get on them so I may just plunk down for a pair. I'm thinking of maybe doing what you did actually.. Get the Strands in walnut, and the Macallisters in bourbon. Seems like a great combo to have and it varies the wardrobe a bit. For me, I feel the Rush Streets might be a bit too casual as I've already got quite a few casual shoes/boots at hand. Thanks again.

Spectator Shoes:

Spectator shoes are tough to pull off without them looking "tacked on". I feel very similarly about them as I do about colored laces. When you wear them everything else needs to have a similar "vibe". In this case very s/s and festive. Additionally, when wearing a two-tone shoe it can be very helpful to match one of the shoe colors to the trouser color. This reduces the amount of clashing around the ankles. Spectators feel very much "at home" when trouser is paired that matches them, it makes the eye feel like they are harmonious and belong together. This is especially important to achieve as spectators often feel loud and out of place. Here is today's attempt at the Singleton:

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

Here I chose the shoes first. I wanted to work them in to an outfit for the holiday. The trousers were an easy second choice for reasons listed above. Light blue chinos (or standard khaki) may have worked, in that case you would go with a white shirt. However, I think the 3 different colors in the bottom block would be too jarring. White was the perfect choice. I chose a belt that would tie to the walnut of the shoes, pulling together the entire bottom block into a coherent whole. Light Blue OCBD was a natural next choice. I think pink would work in this case as well, but I prefer the standard light blue as my outfit is going to draw enough attention as it is. Jacket choice of seersucker is just wonderful here. It is light and s/s while providing sufficient contrast with the shirt and trousers. Finally, any bright and fun pocket square ties everything together. I chose this red, white, and blue one of the holiday. Straw boater optional, but if there was ever a chance to rep it this is it.

Hope this helps some people. feedback and criticisms always welcome. :)

BRAVO! The whole ensemble works perfectly to me

I have the Park Avenue and Strand both in bourbon and love them.

I wear navy and grey suits mainly.  Thinking of getting a dark brown shoe but uncertain of a Brown strand vs Fifth Ave vs McAllister vs Park Ave.

I'm afraid the brown and bourbon are too similar for two strands or Park Aves.

I wonder if the McAllister is too casual for suits?

Not a huge fan of black shoes.

Opinions?  Thanks

McA totally cool for suits. And Merlot looks great with both grey and navy.

You could also try an Adelaide like Rutledge (dark brown) or Vernon (saddle brown).

Or something in chili?

Thanks.

Anyone have pictures of a brown vs bourbon vs merlot together in AE styles?  I searched but I can find only Shell Brown images.

I found this low Rez photo of McAllister in every possible color: chili, brown, merlot, bourbon, black, walnut.

There may be more out there. Just try different google word combos. I don't own any bourbon, merlot calf, or brown calf, so I can't personally help you.
