I agree with everyone else that the soles will last longer, or at least as long, as standard soles. Interesting question on the uppers. I think they will last as long as regular calf but my brown Jeffersons do crease a lot more than standard calf. Not badly but certainly a lot more and slightly different creasing. I don't put much wax on them but usually use leather conditioner fairly often then brush and buff.

Seeing how I am bagging, tagging and taking pictures of my shoes....

Interesting.  I thought the higher quality upper leather would equal less creasing.

I am hoping someone can answer a question about the lasts on the Leeds vs the Dalton boot.

They're supposedly on the same last (511), but I have read that the boot last is actually quite different than the shoe last and is longer and more snug.

I ask because I'm considering some shell Daltons in the same size as my Leeds(12D); My Leeds fit okay but are a bit too loose as my flat feet aren't tall enough and the lace flaps come all the way together and still aren't snug when tied and I want to make sure the Dalton will fit.

Does anyone have both a 511 lasted boot and shoe that can offer an opinion on the fit between the two?

I have shell Leeds in 13E which I put the AE ortho insert in as they fit a bit big...now with the insert they fit perfect. I posted pics a few pages back. My Dalton's Calf in 13E fit me perfect. Some here will disagree with me on this but I find every shell shoe I have from AE (4pair) to be big compared to it's calf partner.

Well I'm 0 for 2 on finding a belt to match my new walnut Park Avenues. I ordered a wide basic from the Tanger Outlet and the color is very blotchy on it. Also ordered the new Grapevine from 6PM.com for $100 and while it looks great, it's about an inch shorter than the Wide Basic and Manistee.

Disappointed because I want to wear these new PA's! Guess I'll see if I can find something decent at the mall this weekend.

never let a belt stop you from  wearing shoes...what is next matching nail polish!...LOL - Good luck with the belt hunt. Try some leather lotion or conditioner and see if that evens out the color on the blotchy belt

Hi All,
Hope this is an okay place to post this, so here goes. I've been looking at AE Strands online lately and I'm wondering if anyone would have any reservations about the Bourbon colour as opposed to Walnut? Walnut seems to get a ton of love on this forum. What do you guys think of the Bourbon colour? I'm looking for a shoe that could work with jeans/khakis yet okay for a little dressier too. Lastly, where's the best place these days for sales/deals on the AE Strand? As it is, I live in the UK (although I'm American) and the exchange rate is pretty good for the pound right now. But still looking for a resonable deal. Thanks very much.

Oh.. another question if I may.. Living in London, being that it rains every now and then, would these look okay with the V tread tap sole? thx.

Buy Loake!

Just kidding.

Are you USAF? AAFES usually has good deals on Strands and Park Aves.

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is coming up, and Strands will be on sale. Not sure how much international shipping will set you back, but seeing as though the pound is almost 2 dollars per, might not be so bad.

Bourbon is cool, by the way. Don't think you can get the Strand with a V tread without special ordering full price from AE, but getting a topy installed in London shouldn't be too hard.

Ha.. thought about Loake 1880's actually. But love the Strand at the moment. No, I'm not USAF (but I like planes).. Long story about how I wound up in London! But I do work in banking now and fortunately the dress code can be somewhat casual on certain days. Good point about getting a topy installed here. Any idea when that Nordstrom's sale kicks off? July sometime, but when?

I think I may be throwing these shell MTO Daltons up this weekend for sale. (8.5D)

I just can't appreciate the fit on the 511 last.

The leather quality to creasing ratio is largely a myth.  You can get the highest quality leather that creases a lot, the lowest quality leather that doesn't crease much at all, and vice versa.

Aafes doesn't have AE anymore, at least not on the website.
