Thanks, and yeah, I agree. Non-wingtip boots are a lot more versatile, I feel.

I use this stuff on leather soles with incredible results:

Thank you for this.  I live in Minnesota and I'm not a fan of the leather sole bottoms (most of my 11 AE's have the tap sole which I love).  My MacTavishes have the leather sole and the shoes look quite a bit dirtier than my tap sole-based shoes.  Any product I can use to help prevent this (or at least make them age more slowly) is appreciated!

I agree. While I don't have them, I did a MTO for my wife and she adores them. I would love to get them in other colors/materials for her.

Digging those Kiowa's, are they 5 Last as well?

Not sure what last the Kiowas are, as they have totally disappeared from all Allen Edmonds websites.  I am wearing them around the house today, and they feel about the same as all my 5 last shoes do.  I took a picture outside in the sun a few minutes ago.  The laces are the laces that came with the Kiowas.  I haven't seen these laces on AE shoes in the past.  I have to figure out how to order the current pattern flat laces that now come with some AE shoes......

Wow. I love that color grain. What is that? Just brown?

Cool, I found this while searching.

http://reviews.allenedmonds.com/7512-en_us/SF2195/kiowa-brown-distressed-leather-reviews/reviews.htm

They mention a 555 last, then later on down the 5-65 last. So maybe that fuller toe, shorter forepart is the change to the 5 last that designates a 555. Wonder if a retail store could order them.

Work in tech. This is about as fancy as I can get.

and maybe some brass eyelets, just for @bl@ster

I was speaking to Nick at B Nelson regarding possibly changing the welt and soles on my Leeds and I was trying to think what I would prefer for soles (was thinking brown Dainite but I want those for my brown dundees when the time comes).

What specs would you guys do on the welt and soles? What do you think would look best? I need Blasters help haha

Or do I just do the $125 recrafting through AE, replace with the same double JR soles but change to a light/medium brown transparent edge and chili welt?

I also agree, looking good! Mine are still in active rotation. I have enough wingtip boots but feel I can always use another captoe, especially a Bayfield.

Wish I would have had one made in burgundy shell now

I live in Mn. also and most of my XX (don't want to count them and know LOL) shoes\boots have leather soles. As soon as I walk in the door from work I take them to the deep sink and wipe them down with a damp rag. If the soles have gotten wet which is usually the case I use a knuckle brush and saddle soap to clean them and then place them on a closet maid type shelf which is open and allows air to circulate. It has worked well for me. The next day when dry I always hit the edges with edge dressing and if the soles are starting to get beat up I will apply a little HDLP and melt it in with a hair dryer, but it does make them slippery on tile and marble flooring at first.
