Sure they do. I sent Nick a pair of Florsheim Imperial shell gunboats for resoling and reconditioning the uppers. Turned out fantastically well. Nick does a great job.

Why would you send your shoes to AE knowing there is a fair chance they will not survive the recraft? I recall one poster commenting that the CS Rep he talked to advised against sending them in.

If these are the same AE's that you just bought on EBay and the no warranty status was not disclosed, you should return them. That is a significant defect to remain quiet about.

It was disclosed. It was a good deal so I didn't care. They are almost brand new Vernons for $74. When the time comes for a recraft, I will make the decision...

Just put a topy on the sole and replace it when it's worn through. I don't see the need to recraft those for atleast a few years if they're in a reasonable rotation.

Can seconds be returned to regular ae stores? I thought no, but the shoe bank website implies yes. Anybody with real life experience?

Do you polish a waxed leather (McTavish) the same as any calfskin?

I've only ever purchased one pair of seconds, and that was earlier this week. I'm actually about to make a post about it now because I want some opinions. However, to answer your question: I was told yes by the SA from whom I purchased the shoes (over the phone), as well as yes from my SA at my local store.

Yes I have done so myself numerous times. Including some RL shoes which the AE sales rep didn't know they made.

So now, for some opinions. As I literally just stated in my above post, I made my first ever purchase of seconds earlier this week. I bought a pair of burgundy shell MacNeils, which I posted a few pages back. However, I never stated my concern about them. When I called the outlet shop that carried the shoes in my size, I asked what the defects were, and I was told there was a scratch (which I easily buffed out upon receiving the shoes) as well as a misalignment of the wing on the left shoe. I'll be posting pictures below to show you what I mean, but I'd like some opinions. I personally notice everything and everything about my shoes, and I know I will be told to send them back if I'm not happy with them. But, for the price I paid (the gentleman, for some reason, said he'd drop the price to $299) I'm not sure if I could really beat it. I am happy with the price I paid, in addition to the fact that I'm 100% sure that 99% of people will NOT notice the defect (100% of the people on this forum will, though), but what do you guys think?

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

The shaker heights are really growing on me at the seconds sale pricing. Im drown to the dark chocolate, but the reddish chili looks more authentic hunter/outdoorsman-like and I think I want dark chocolate daltons down the line anyway. Does anyone have wear pics and/or a review?

Those look awesome, keep them if you are happy with them.

I am the same fit in both 1 and 5 last with the 5 fitting me just slightly better. I am 10D in both (TTS) and the Patriots are also 10D. The brown pair is slightly tighter fitting than the burgundy and I wear them without socks which is something I used to think I would never do. But in the summer it works extremely well. The burgundy I wear with thin dress socks and black superfeet inserts. Good luck, I hope you can find a pair on the seconds list both of my Patriots are seconds. The burgundy you can't tell are seconds, on the brown there is some stitching slightly off on the welt but not enough that most people would ever notice.

My Brannock measures halfway between 10D and 10.5D.  I wear 10E in the 5 last.  A 10.5D in the 7 last.  And, a roomy 10.5D in the 1 last.  I think the 10E in the 5 lasts and the 10.5D in the 1 last are pretty close to the same.

Love mine. I had them made up in Chili with Dainite soles instead of V-Tap. Leather is very soft cow. Doesn't hold up great in really wet conditions, but some conditioner and polish will bring them back up. Pretty much only wear them with jeans, and now they're shelved until the fall.

But I highly recommend. Especially at $150 (ish?)

Im still on the fence. In some wear pics the tweed seems to take up more of the boot than the stock pics make it look like. I think I may have to hold out for the Dalton, which is probably the AE boot I really want.
