Allen Edmonds Appreciation Thread - Page 303

Quick cross post.  I started a Hellbrand Leatherworks Appreciation thread.  They made a custom CXL belt for me at a reasonable price.  I'm hoping they can come up with a leather to match my red Neumoks as well.  Something to think about if you're in the market for a belt.

Disgusting question... I stepped in human bodily waste (excrement) today with my leather-soled Strands. Middle of the sidewalk, on the street, didn't see it. Wash or replace the soles?  They're otherwise fresh soles... I obviously washed them already. It bothers me, but I'm cheap... I suspect there may be a legitimate hygiene/disease  concern...?

i would have let it dried in the sun. scraped with a knife and a good brush with the dirt brush.

Try spraying some bleach and wiping it down or get those chlorex bleach wipes, will pretty much kill anything --- might also strip the soles a bit, but you're going to step on them anyway. If you want something less harsh, can always dump Purell on it.

I just bought my first pair of Allen Edmonds shoes, a pair of fine McAllisters. The problem (once they came in the mail) is that when tightened and laced up properly I can scoot my foot forward a good centimeter away from the back of the shoe. Too small? I ordered a 7.5D and I think that a 7D would be too tight on the sides.

The real unanswered question here: how do you know it was human poo?

You might try a 7E.

new to the whole AE thing, but i saw in the paper that they're having a limited sale until the end of the month (4/30) at least in the DC area on select items. thinking about picking myself up a pair of shoes possibly for a June wedding! do AEs tend to run true to size? or smaller/larger?

It varies by style - it is best to go by the store and try on different sizes in the styles you want.

I wear 9.5 in some styles, 9 in others. I wear 10 to 11 in other brands. So there is no rule of thumb. Go by the store and get fitted and try some on. That's the only way to be sure.

I have a little gap at the back if I push my foot forward. But 1cm (just under half an inch), that might be too much. Mine have a gap of not quite 1/4 inch.

Did you try a 7D? It might be fine. If you go to a 7E, the heel might be too wide. If I go from my usual 9.5D to a 9E, the heel is way too wide.

^^  LOL.  Regarding the sizing question, I'd try going down a size, up a width... or just  down a size, as was mentioned.

Shell Randolph loafers today.
