Enjoy Darkside...they look great. Just an FYI - I used a spray leather treatment on mine for a little waterproofing as I felt the A/E lotion or conditioner would darken mine too much and I wanted to preserve the look mine had. I know others have had washed out looking navy with this leather and used the conditioner/cleaner to darken them.

For anyone who has never tried this shoe on, it is the most comfy shoe.

When I first put them on, they were snug in the toebox but stretched out to a very comfortable fit within a couple hours of wear. I think I ended up with the right size.

All in all, I love this shoe; it reminds me of an unstructured Macneil in blue. I always said that AE needs more longwing bluchers and this is one of the few. I see this as a consistent go-to for casual wear for me, and maybe even with shorts and loafer socks. The washed out navy look is very unique but subdued, and the contrast welt just sets it off. Highly recommended for anyone in need of a shoe not for dress purposes.

That actually looks a lot better than the AE website! Is it the same color as the neumoks or the cronmoks?

I've been looking at pulling the trigger on a penny loafer and I think the walden at $199 is a good value for firsts. Can anyone share their experience on sizing the waldens? I'm an 8E on the 5 last and an 8.5d on the brannock and other AE lasts.

Agreed. These would look killer with some tan chinos, cords or travel jeans.

Same as Cronmok and Chukkamok; not the same as Neumok.

Because of him, to date, I have not purchased one pair of firsts.

What's your secret? Because my current experience with that store makes me not want to buy Allen Edmonds ever again.

I received a severely defective pair in February when there was a big sale. Was told to send them back for a replacement. Did so in April (hadn't worn them yet) and was told I would be put on a waiting list. Have been called twice in the past month to tell me they have shipped only to call a week later, asking for my tracking and being told "oh sorry they oversold and I never shipped them". I had to find it out a week later by calling. Still without a pair of shoes and no reply to my e-mail

Hey all,

New to the forum, been lurking for a while.  I recently purchased a few AE's, the Eastport (Tan), Franciscan (Black), and McAllister (Walnut).  So far, I love them, but I'm noticing that the toe/sole on the McAlisters seems to have curled up a bit.  They've always had shoe trees in them and have been well cared for (wore them only 10 times).  I attached a few photos below.  It seems like this may be curling too much - does this look normal?  I did search McAllister and Strand on google image and found some pictures where the same thing seems to be happening to other people.  Thoughts?

Thanks!

No offense, bud, but your Walnut Macs need edge dressing.  Badly.  (Chili in color)

My secret, along with many others on here, is to build a relationship with a particular Manager or SA.  I personally have a Manager as my SA so am informed about things a little more ahead of time then the SA's; however, there are some SA's that have been there for quite sometime and are really familiar with the behind the scenes / sales / etc.  By me communicating with a Manager, he also has the ability to pull shoes from other stores without getting 'Manager approval'.. so that definitely helps.

SA and Manager's make a commission -- so once you have an established relationship, it is quite easy to move forward from that point... a lot of the times they will go out of the way to make sure you are happy.  Sure it is a little difficult to build that initial relationship (especially if you wait until the day of a major Shoe Bank sale), but the best way is to pick up the phone and speak with them direct -- when they get overloaded (and they do during heavy sale times, etc.), their email is lowest priority.. sometimes queueing up messages in the 100s.

If you drop me a PM, I will send you the contact details for my Shoe Bank contact =] You just have to make sure to let him know I sent you =D

Bought as seconds within the last 6 months (little to no flaws.. or at least very minimal):

  • Walnut Strand
  • Bourbon Kenilworth
  • Navy Neumok
  • Smokey Grey Long Branch
  • Burgundy Shell McNeil
  • CXL Rush Street

Hi Guys - I have a favour to ask. I am in need of some brown suede shoes, and ideally I would like to use them for casual use (chinos), and occasionally with grey wool pants and a navy SC. Snuff suede amoks sound like they would be a great choice, but there are few pictures available on the web. I found a pair in my size in the shoebank, and I wonder if any of you have and would mind posting some pix of your snuff suede amoks in the field? I'd like to see what they look like with pants.  Thanks a lot in advance!

This is the only 1 I've got on me. Shouldn't really be a question tbh. I called shoebank months ago and told them to ship me every amok color they had in my size. Outstanding shoe for $100.

Thanks. You got an excellent deal at $100! I still think they are great value at $149. I'm going to ask the clearance store to send the shoes to the Detroit store and pick them up on my way through in a couple of weeks. I'm in Canada, and the $45 shipping fee is prohibitive on a single pair of shoes.

Would anyone be able to help me out with a good, close up picture of the AE Brown Grain Calf leather?

Considering an MTO in this but can't find that much on it.

I believe their "Grain" leather is available in Black, Brown, Chili and Walnut, correct?

The "Football" grain leather appears to be the Chili but with a larger grain pattern?

Looking at the product photos, chili is definitely different than football in color. To stick with sports, chili looks more like the surface of an indoor-only basketball.

browsing the shoebank site and noticed a 12.5 E MacNeil 5 Cognac....12.5 had to be specially ordered...I really hope they are not the pair I sent back those shoes should have been burned. Waiting for my replacement's in size 12.

I just got one in 7.5EEE. Feel a little too tight. I usually wear 7EEE on 5 last. I compare the two. The Walden is still shorter than my PA. Guess you need 9 E or EEE.

BTW, Walden is corrected grain, not as good as calf.
