What kind of wood?

The wood is Butternut wood.  It's a white walnut.  It stains to look like a dark walnut.  Since this is my first time doing wood carving I choose the wood based on the fact that it has a grain that is easy to work with.

Now that the finish has completely dried, here is a picture of the boots with the trees.

Would you guys say this color is borderline inappropriate for casual business wear? I like the color, but it's getting really popping after stripping out most of the layered polish on top. I think this color is closer to ruby red than burgundy.

Bend the rules, baby. We call that "style."

And no, looks fine for bus-casual

Great color on those! I would definitely wear those in a casual business environment. I might even be inclined to lighten the edge trim :-) Looks almost like a #4.

Then spotted these and had to give them a shot. Brown Shell Jeffersons as 2nds.

With flash.

There are a few small scuffs there on the vamp, but nothing some elbow grease can't get out.

Sunlight

Only one or two minor flaws and for the price will most def. be keeping them. Super excited.

Beautiful...beautiful..beautiful...

Those should NEVER be in any business environment and the fact that you even have to ask would warrant you not to be employable....If they are a size 12 or 13 let me know and I will buy them from you and have them destroyed to save you from further embarrassment. If they are any other size then keep those puppies and ROCK ON...I think they are great.

Not only have you stripped 'em down to the most gorgeous color I've ever seen, you've also inspired me to break out my wallet when AE runs another sale on shell seconds (there's one pair of burgundy shell Leeds in my super-rare size waiting for me).

Rock them. icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif

Also: I have a pair of burgundy shell Graysons that I'll be wearing with seersucker to a wedding next month and would love it if they looked like that. Teach us your ways...!

If you can wear Walnut in business casual (which I do every week), then you can certainly wear those.

Never say "no" to shell.
