Actually the jeans are raw denim, so a shade of dark blue not black or charcoal... : )

And to ad to the controversy I think that the darker tone of the Bourbon especially burnished, with the black soles, may well look good with charcoal or even (dare I say it?) black pants... : o

Thanks for all the comments guys- I was really thinking Walnut when I went in the store but LOVE the Bourbon, and the versatility... also love walking out with the exact belt I need with the shoes!

Definitely more snug in the toe box and they feel more narrow in general. That may also be due to the fact they are unlined similar to the effect with the Aldens. I couldn't pass them up at under $100 for seconds. Thu have a small chip on the inside of the heal barely noticeable. I felt that represented great value.

Same size as my Daltons. Seeing all the amazing pics of walnut cordovan as of late isn't making the wait time for mine go by any faster.

I went with the 8.5d in both. Quick shipping from the shoe bank as well nice and easy.

Very nice. I also picked up some Brooks Brothers Walnut/Brown Shelton seconds and some Tan Finch seconds in my regular 5-65 last size of 8.5D. Interestingly, they were way too small. The Sheltons were especially small, likely due to the Poron insole; I could barely get them on my foot. I didn't expect these 1-511 last saddles to be so small considering my Dark Brown Shell Townley's fit pretty well (just a little tight on that right pinky toe; plan on trying to stretch them). Anyone else have a similar experience with Sheltons or Finches?

I'm considering going to Brooks Brothers to try on the Sheltons. If I find that 9D works, do you think it'll work for the non-Poron Finches? Maybe Nordstrom will have some 9D Finches I can try on? I'm concerned I have to try some higher widths to make this work, but without an AE store around, it might require quite a bit of back-and-forth.

Thanks!
I found that these Sheltons fit TTS; felt great right out of the box (which certainly isn't always the case for me). Perhaps your experience was due to the insoles. The BB versions always fit a little different for me.

Hello all,

After lurking through this thread for months I finally gave in and bought a pair of dalton seconds. They are quite lovely but one had quite a few blemishes. I realize they were discounted for a reason, but having never owned shoes of this quality before I was with wondering if these would buff out with a little polish and cream or if they were irreparable?

So, being one state over from AE headquarters means my "Paul Grangaard" MTO arrived today. :slayer: I went for a pair of Kenilworths in walnut shell and I think it came out pretty good. I specified some poron insoles and was a bit worried that it might affect the fit, but thankfully the shoe fits fine and not all that different from the try-on sample the ladies at AE sent me to verify my Kenilworth size.

The walnut shell color looks great, and ever slightly lighter than another pair of shell PTB's I recently received that came out much lighter than it was supposed to. So I now have two pairs of tan/dark tan colored shell PTB's at my disposal. The Kenilworths will serve as the blobby pair (check the pictures below ;)).

Overall, I'm very happy with the MTO experience with AE and I'd like to thank Mr. Grangaard for the nice offer to the SF community.

Onto some quick pics:

Compared with the aforementioned other pair of shell PTB's, which is Carmina. The 5-last doesn't look so sleek anymore, which is OK here. It would be kind of difficult to justify two pairs of sleek PTBs in almost the same color.

These are definitely awesome! And I'm very happy you have your MTOs. At the same time I'm jealous! I have to wait another day or two to get mine . . .

Thank you, and all others who commented on my walnut shell Kenilworths, for the kind words. I'm looking forward to seeing pics of your MTO! It would be cool to see a lot of unique AE makeups in this thread soon.

Just got notice that my Webgem order for the chili Daltons shipped. Looking forward to getting them; they're arriving about two weeks earlier than promised! Anybody got theirs yet? Photos?

I ordered Walnut Shell Macneils. Seeing the color on yours, I even more stoked to get mine. I can't wait.
