Thoughts regarding this shoe on the casual/formal spectrum (keeping in mind loafers are inherently more casual than most lace-ups)?

Thoughts on fit?

I will in a few days. I just ordered a pair of seconds from Brookfield. I can't wait to get them (is checking the tracking everyday expecting that date to move up strange behavior?). I've been looking for loafers for some time. I went with walnut because I figured that they were, as you said, 'inherently more causal' to begin with. I thought the walnut would be better for summer when I am at my most casual. Plus I already have the Fifth Avenues in Walnut and think that it's one of AE's best colors.

went to put on my mcallisters last night and as I pulled up on the tongue it ripped right out! anyone ever had this happen to them? Think I could get a cobbler to fix this? Or just contact AE?

wow. Just out of curiosity though, but why are you pulling on the tongue? Do you use a shoe horn? I'm just having a hard time picturing why you would even be pulling on it at all.

+1 on the above- No need to ever pull on the tongue. I suppose that pulling on it might have encouraged this to happen, but there must have been a flaw in the material.

I agree. That is a horrifying image. I occasionally lift one particular pair of boots by the tongue before I put them on my feet, but now I think I'll refrain from even doing that. Yikes.

I did use a shoe horn. After slipping my foot in, the tongue had been a little pushed down/caught under and so I went to tug it back up and it came right off.

does noone ever adjust the tongue to center it sometimes?

I am inclined to believe there has to be a flaw in the material or construction. I really can't see anyone accidentally pulling on the tongue with sufficient force to rip the leather. Unless the OP is benching 450.

Just picked up a pair of strands, now want to go full bore and expand my collection. Few questions:

Is buying strictly factory seconds a good way of getting high quality AE's at a discount?

This Memorial Day sale for outlets, is this a good sale? How often do outlets have sales? Every major holiday?

Is having a Park Ave a must for a good collection?

Why I reading posts that undervalue the color black compared to different shades of browns?

I've tried the search function to find some answers to these questions but it sucks. Your feedback is appreciated.

+1 Sometimes I need to adjust the tongue on my shoes also, but really don't have to tug too much. I have a pair of C&Js I usually have trouble with the most, but my AE's just need a slight tug to get it back in place.

There isn't anything wrong with pulling on the tongue, and everyone should feel perfectly comfortable doing so if it needs to be straightened out. That is definitely a freak situation that I've never seen before either, but the first phone call I would make is to AE to report it to them. It absolutely has to be a defect in the leather, because it just doesn't tear like that under any normal circumstances. I too would like to hear how old those are, though.
