First off, I do not think those are shell cordovan. I think the 9107 is black polished calf. There are some ripples that would lead you to believe they are shell, but there are also many creases and wrinkles which tell me this is leather, not horsie... Also, this does not have the sole/heal combination that would go with shell cordovan. Even if I am correct, that price is not bad for a par of quality macneils. As for recrafting, and your question about stretching, ask away with the recrafting specialists at AE. The worst they can say is no.I picked up these shell macneils cheap with the intent of having them recrafted:

They fit, but Im wondering if an 11 might be a better fit. They are not uncomfortable, but my big toe more or less touches the side of the shoe at all times, I feel that extended wear might get uncomfortable. Can I ask AE to stretch them out when I send them to recrafting?
