Thanks for the tips guys. I'm definitely not opposed to the darker edges, and it's actually a bit lighter than I was remembering now that I look at them again. I'm more just annoyed with myself for not being more careful before putting the dressing on.
Here's a couple pics...
Those are really good looking shoes jkater1 - thanks for the pice. What size are yours? Just trying to get a sense of proportions.
Those two are very close in colour - and very nice. What did you use to polish the Alden's - just a brush and arm power, or did you use any product?
My favorite pair of AE shells. 744 action shot down by the water. Got them as seconds during the whole ridiculously cheap price fiasco earlier this year. My friend is selling me his 721s at his cost since they didn't quite work for him. Gonna treat them just as lovingly These are thoroughly Crane's method, btw. No Mac pampering for these bad boys.
I think those look great. My bourbon strands have black edges and I'm fond of the contrast. As with most things, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Don't beat yourself up too much over the edge dressing; they look very nice.
After much hemming and hawing I decided to order Park Avenues in black, Mcallisters in Walnut, and Strands in Walnut (with a 13.5, 4E foot, I know it's going to take a lot of playing around to find the right fit). With backordered Bruces for stomping around. I've been on a college budget and have relied on Clarks and other random brands before this. Thanks for the excellent discussion which helped guide my decision!
In a Chukka, sure it is a year-rounder.Also, I'd always kinda viewed a brown suede chukka as a fall shoe, but mediahound doesn't seem to have a problem wearing them in the middle of spring. Thoughts on the versatility of such a shoe? Is it a year 'rounder?
