Almost picked up the Rothsay as well, but didn't realize only the black are on sale for $195, not the cognac.

Perhaps most importantly the manager, who now knows me, said I could bring in my first ever pair of AEs which are not the right size (11.5 d, bought at another store where the SA never measured me) and we would "see what we could do." If he lets me exchange them for a pair of 9EEEs I will be thrilled.

Would this be the Reston store, or is there a new manager at the Connecticut Ave store?

I would try 9.5EEE if I were you.

DC store on Connecticut. I'm not sure if he is the actual manager, or assistant. He is an Egyptian guy named Alex. He gave me a brand new pair of black Strands today in exchange for my worn ill-fitting pair purchased in July. He definitely didn't have to do that, but he did.

I had a chance to take better pictures of my MTO burgundy shell Lexingtons:

Thanks. I might do that and switch to a walnut calf as well.

Another question: When I placed my order for the 9.5 E Strand on the AE website, it stated "recrafted/made to order. order now and receive by..." -- can this be returned? I'm not sure what "Shoes ordered through our custom shoe configurator and other special make up shoes are ordered on a no cancel, no return basis" exactly means in AE's return policy.

Thanks again.

Good to hear you had a good experience there.  I may have to give them another chance.

(I visited them a few times, got ignored the first time, adequate/polite service the other times, and got the hairy eyeball when I returned a pair of seconds there.)

Burgundy shell Lexington (Sanford on the 1-last) with natural split-reverse welt and natural edge dressing.  Independence sole, but only because they forgot to put in the rest of the independence lining.  Love ‘em!

That's as close as the "V" meet on the top.

Thanks in advance.

That's one of the most hilarious things that I've seen in a while. I'm not sure if this is serious or not, but thanks for the lawlz.

^Yes, it is a serious question. It's my first time buying AE shoes.

^Come on man, lace them up so we can see for real.

I don't think lacing them up would help, as that is really how close the "V" on the top could meet. That's why I'm asking if I should I go with a 9.5 EEE or go with a different last.

Thanks

I asked the same question a couple of days ago in this thread when I posted a picture of my 5-last fit, and I got several great responses. You might want to look back at those pictures and see what folks had to say. It's almost the exact same scenario, although not quite as exaggerated as in your picture. I ordered a pair of AE Hales to see how they fit. I suspect that they'll be a good bit more accommodating of my high instep.

I would give a 9.5EEE a try. If that doesn't fit well, try a blucher like the Kenilworth, Delray or Flatiron. These should provide more room for your instep.
