Can't compare but:  They're Cedar.  They're cheap.  They're easy to assemble.  They hold 6 pairs of shoes.  I like them.  :fonz:

Edit.  yours holds 8 pairs for $35?  Sold!! lol

I'm getting married in May 2014 and our color scheme is grey, yellow, and purple.

I was wondering if anyone has some ideas of good color schemes I could wear in terms of my shirt and tie. My suit will be some shade of grey. The easy obvious choice is just a white shirt with a purple or yellow tie (thinking I'll have my groomsmen all wear one color, and I'd wear the other). Maybe that is the best idea, but are there are any other shirt colors that might be worth considering?

Also, any sub-$500 off-the-rack suits that are wedding worthy (would take to a tailor of course)? I'm about 6' 220 with wide shoulders. I usually wear a 44r, sometimes a 46 depending on the cut. If I have to I'll shell out the $ for a custom-made suit, but if there are some good OTR options, I'd rather put that money into something else.

Finally, what shoes would you go with? Black or Walnut Strands?

Thanks in advance!

At the risk of derailing this thread. I would do this:

White shirt, purple tie, yellow lapel flower.

As for suits, look on ebay for one cheaply in your size. Ther are a plethora of threads on what makers you should look for. Find one close to your measurements then take it to a tailor. It'll be 90% of a MTM suit.

As for shoes, if you want to be ballsy, the walnut strand is the superior shoe (in my opinion). However, being the groom in a wedding I feel calls for black.

Does anyone know how the 8 last fits relative to the 5 last and the 7/1 lasts? Is the length on the 8 last comparable to the 5 last, hence you should size down 0.5 for the 8 last? Considering buying a pair of Mora 2.0s

Hi,
I'm sure you will get a ton of answers regarding suits but i'll throw my suggestions in there as i'm in a suit most of the week. I just discovered that I really like the Epaulet suits that are made by Southwick. They are over the $500 price but worth it for a quality piece. Epaulet has an affiliate thread here if you want more info. Another option that is only slightly above what you want to spend is a MTM suit by H Freeman (not to be confused with Hickey Freeman but it's still made in the USA). L.S. Menswear in NYC can get you in a MTM H Freeman for less than $700. There is a guy outside of DC that can do the same thing but if i'm not mistaken his prices are higher. Lastly, i'd suggest looking at places like Off Saks and Neiman Marcus Last Call. I just two days ago saw a great Hickey Freeman (mainline not the outlet line) gray glenplaid double breasted suit for about $700. I've seen Isaia, Brioni, Hickey Freeman, Canali, ect... at these places for around the same $700 price point. Hope this helps.

Depending on the tone of gray you go with i'd almost always say walnut strands.

I personally just use an AE wide dress belt ($35 at the outlet) with all my walnut... I don't see any weirdness...

The shoes (from top to bottom) are Hamptons, broadstreet, fifth ave, strand, park ave & ashbury (which is AE's tan)

How many shades of grey? :bigstar:

I vote for the walnut strands with light grey suit, white shirt and yellow tie.  Your groomsmen can do mid grey, whiteshirts and purple ties.

Those look fantastic. What welt/sole edge combo is that?

Thanks! I definitely won't be buying one at full retail now I know how cheap they can be purchased at the outlets! Hopefully I can get the free belt deal!

Can anyone post a side-by-side picture comparison of Walnut Burnished Calf vs. Bourbon Calf?  I'm going back and forth between the two colors for a pair of Dalton wingtip boots and I thought a pic of both (shared lighting, etc..) might help me out.  If the picture happens to have a pair of grey trousers or jeans in it as well, all the better.

Also, can anyone chime in with a comparison of the fit between the Dalton and the Strand (the AE shoe I have in a 13D)?

Thanks.

I live in Stamford and can confirm there is no AE store at the Stamford Mall. A new store did open in Westport, CT not too far away

Thank you, gentlemen. I am really happy with how they turned out.

To answer your questions:

1. Jungle--you're right, these are cappuccino shell

2. Tifosi--the welt is natural and the edge is transparent chili. I was actually expecting it to be a little lighter (it's a shed darker in life than it is on the pictures), so I might want to check with Allison whether they might be able change the color at this point.

Here you go.  No grey slacks or jeans but lighting is similar on both pics --- indirect sunlight, no flash.

Walnut Daltons:

Chili burnished Daltons:

The colors are pretty close.  I have been told that the chili actually starts off as walnut and then AE finishes/burnishes it to the chili finish.

The common suggestion is to size up a half when going from the 5 last to the 1 last.  That's what I did and it works for me.

Good luck.
