A while back I picked up on eBay a pair of Allen Edmonds patent leather bluchers, the Kendall. While it isn't the best design for a black-tie event, they were only worn once and I got an incredible deal. To spruce them up I am making some silk shoelaces, but am hitting a kink with the two pairs of eyelets. Would I be breaking some rule to have a cobbler add an additional two sets of eyelets? There is plenty of room between the existing eyelets. For reference the size is 14D and the eyelets are currently 1.25" apart.

I'm going to try and avoid snow and rain when possible so these shoes won't see too much damage. How should I take care of the leather though? I know it's not going to be "care-free maintenance" like snow boots but will the leather break down really quickly, destroying the integrity of the shoe?

You would take care of the leather on the shoes the same way you would with any other pair of leather shoes. Clean off after every wear, and condition every now and then. If you go out when there is salt make sure to check the boots and if there is any staining immediately clean with vinegar and water.

I've only worn them twice for approximately 10 hours total. The tightness is in the overall midsection of my feet. It's especially tight in the area behind the first pinky joint but in front of the heel, the spot that's directly across from the arch. Do park avenues in black calf stretch in those areas? If not, would a cobbler be able to fix it?
Thanks!

Is it tight across the top or just the sides? If it is tight just on the side, it might stretch enough for it to be comfortable in the future. My MacNeils were causing me discomfort near the 4th toe (3 from the big toe) and after several wears I no longer feel discomfort with them.

and then the same people turn around and **** all over pics of the Fifth Street, which to my eye, has the exact same proportions as the Fifth Ave/Park Ave

Is this true? I don't have both shoes to compare, but I thought the Fifth Streets cap toe was longer.

Just to follow up on my own post, here is a picture of my Fifth Streets (5 last) and Niles (8 last). I know it's not the same as Fifth Street vs. Fifth Avenue or Park Avenue. Would still like to see a comparison shot between those two (Fifth Street vs either the Fifth avenue or Park Avenue).

Since you guys seem very knowledgeable about AE, I am having issues getting a well-fitting pair of shoes. I got some Strands in 8D from the seconds sale and they were very snug, so I took a trip to the AE store and 8E fit better, but I had heel slippage. Basically I have small girth at the ankle and my foot is only very wide at the ball. Just about every last the E fit better (and blucher style was even more heel slippage) except for the 333 last which fit well in D. Thing is, I'm not big on square toe. What do you think the best approach would be? I would like a brogued shoe (love wingtips), and I like oxford over blucher but I am done being that picky. I'm probably going to snag the Dalton in grey since the boots fit me great, but I would like something else.

Finally got a chance to try on my RL Sandersons and Saunders. First note: No drawstring bag? :(

Secondly, the Sandersons fit perfectly... but it seems as if the tan colour faded away from the vamp area. Really disappointed with the off colouring.

Lastly, the Saunders. The width is great, but they're a half size too long. I can only imagine that the Sanderson and Saunders are on two different lasts.

Pictures will come soon!

Allen Edmonds seconds don't usually come with drawstring bags, but it's understandable to be disappointed when you first find that out.

I got mine in an 8E (wanted an 8.5D, but none in brown) and my pinky toes are quite cramped in them as well. Not sure if they are going to work out. I tried stretching them with an over-sized shoe tree for 2 nights to no avail. Been walking around the house with them quite a bit. In a few more days, if no relief, they will be going back...which would be a shame, as these are quite a steal for $130.

I am a us8D to us8EE I have RL Saunders in us8.5D but my pinky toe kills me. I can't keep them on my feet for more than 10 minutes. The last is long and super narrow.

It's tight across the middle part, especially the outer sides of the shoe. It kind of rubs on my pinky too. Since I'm not going to return it, should I take it to a cobbler to stretch it or is there something I can do about it at home? Thanks!

I haven't seen where they publish their sales. That said, I haven't been able to figure them out at all. They run massive sales like they are going out of business (buy one get 3 free on suits that are over $1,000.00!?

) I dont' know how they sell anything at retail price when they run these crazy sales so frequently. Just keep an eye on them though, because I haven't seen more than a month go by without some insane sale they are running.
