Randolph (burgundy, black)

Patriot (burgundy)

Park Ave (black)

Grayson (burgundy)

McGraw (burgundy)

Macneil (burgundy, black)

Leeds (black)

Dundee (only says "truffle" where as the rest give the color and clearly state cordovan. It's priced at $299 though, so should I assume this is shell?)

My current collection:

Black calf Strand

Walnut calf Strand

Grey Aberdeen

Walnut Shell Dalton

What do you guys think is the best way to go here? Thanks!

My first choice would be the burgundy MacNeils, then Dundees, then Patriots (Burgundy).

The Dundee is the only one that can not be bought in the future in that colour. Once it's gone, that's it.

On that note, let me know what size the Dundee is if you are not getting it.

The rolls break in nicely, generate patina, and more or less give shell the appearance of being a well broken in shoe that still shines up well. It's not for everyone, though.

yes... I've had this discussion with numerous people.  Thanks for the thoughtful explanation.  I don't think the rolls are for me.  In my opinion, it ruins the shape of the shoe and makes the shoes look older, and more "worn in" than they actually are, that is just my opinion though.

Just curious though, how long does it take to develop rolls in shell like the ones in those chukkas?

Ahhhh Bummer...my Amok ($109) order from mid-Sept was canceled due to high demand. AE did offer me a 10% coupon that I can use WITH the RDA sale. Decisions ... Decisions

That's great news on the customer service!

I dont wear black suits ever. I have a few pairs of black pants that I wear with lighter or striped shirts. I wanted a pair of boots for those. I'm probably going to go cheaper since the shoes won't have high utility so it's all good.

You need some burgundy and could use a loafer, but you don't appear to need another brogued wingtip.  Personally, I would take the burgundy MacNeils (followed by the Dundees), but my needs are different.   In your case I'd go with the Graysons or the Dundees.

MTO for $455 is the clear answer there.

Not sure what that means but I like it! They fit perfectly. I'll do a lot of brushing tonight and see what that does for them.

I wonder if I could get a Saddle shoe Shell make up in two different kinds of shell. Hmm....

For those who have been on this thread longer, is the 299 for shell an exceptionally good sale? Or does the 299 shell come around quite frequently? I am trying to resist getting another pair of shoes, because I think getting a pair every couple of weeks is bordering on some kind of disorder for me, but I will sorely regret if this 299 for shell deal is a rare opportunity.

Sorry if this adds to the cheapening of the brand b/c I fall into the camp of buying AE when on discount, but clearly I am just another shoe addict trying to stretch my money for my affliction

$299 for shell is the lowest you will find

It's a Japanese phrase. Loose translation is 'imperfection is perfection'

So what do you guys think of this one?
