Allen Edmonds Appreciation Thread - Page 1978

I recently received my first pair of AE cordovans, Cambridge seconds from the $299 sale:

I already have mink oil renovator for my calf shoes, which I like very much. Is mink oil okay for cordovan or do I need to get VSC or Saphir Reno for these puppies? And can I use my burgundy paste polish that I use on my calf, or again do I need a special cordovan product?

Looks like the Rediscover America landing page is already up?

Is there a glossary somewhere explaining all the different welts and other details? Jubei's pics of his Cliftons are making me want an MTO, but I'd like to know all my options.

Yes, last year's page. Scroll to the bottom and you'll see the 2012 copyright.

Not to mention those dates equate to a Tues to Wed sale duration, if you look at a 2013 calendar. Last year's...

PSA: Aberdeen's for $87 in 8D.

They're a funky looking shoe but for the money, it might be worth it for some.

Ha, no worries. It gets confusing with all the "S's": Sanderson, Singleton, Saunders, etc. I ordered a pair of brown Saunders a few months ago and they sent me a pair of Sandersons by mistake. When I tried to correct it they were out of stock on the Saunders. I ended up keeping the Sanderson since it was in nice condition and I only paid $129.

I don't feel so bad now.

The Sandersons are great. Wait, do I own the Sandersons? :brick: or the Saunders? Blast you, Ralph Lauren, for picking out these S names!

The Aberdeen is one of my favorite AE models. It's essentially a version of the MacNeil (or so AE refers to it on the website) but made on a 2 last and with a more casual twist. It's absolutely great for the foul weather or for the overnight trips. I have a pair in brown which I've been wearing for about a year and I just got another pair to keep in my closet, since it's being discontinued. This said, I must admit the shoe looks pretty ugly in grey. While $87 might be a good deal, it is currently on sale for $125 and since this is a closeout style, you'll likely get first quality.

I'm not aware of AE ever sending out first quality shoes to the Shoe Bank just because they're closeouts.

The closeout Sanfords that I got from the ShoeBank were firsts.

Hmm...maybe you're right.  The site I found them on said they were AE, but it wouldn't be the first time the internet was wrong, lol.

That welt doesn't look like AE.  I'm with rydanfan, it looks like the tobacco waxed LWB, Alden for J Crew...  (right)

Thanks for the input. Would you say the quality of the suede is the same as in Amoks? The $525 retail makes it more expensive than Alden's unlined chukka so it'd better be good.

I have never handled the Amok so I cannot say. I can only describe the suede as being rough and "not of high quality."

RTP, I am pretty positive they are indeed Alden waxed LWB for J.Crew.

Thanks for the recommendation MWS.  Look's like they are made in the US.  Will definitely check them out.
