From past experience, when Allen Edmonds Shoe Bank does a 2-for sale on seconds and discontinued shoes (for example, 2 pairs for $250), can one also get 3 pairs for the same price per pair? For example, 3 for $375 when the offer was 2 for $250. Also, if one buys 2 for $250 and has to return a pair because it doesn't fit well, does the price on the kept pair go up?

If I'm buying my first brown dress shoe, a dark brown rather than a walnut is the correct choice, right?

Are these firsts

at $150 a better deal than potentially getting Fifth Ave/Strand seconds at $125 later this week?

In general, it would be better to order firsts if they do not cost much more than seconds. The most important thing is to get shoes that fit well (are comfortable) and that you love. The ones on clearance are a mix of grained leather and smooth leather. If you love that, then it is a good price. If you would prefer a shoe to be 100% smooth calf leather, I would advise to wait for a deal on the Fifth Avenue or Strand. Some may argue either way regarding the aesthetics and versatility of the choices you are presenting. Ultimately, it is up to you to decide what style you love and will get good use of. Also, be sure the shoes fit well.

To add/clarify to the message above, the regular Strand and Fifth Avenue are not part of the 2 for $250 sale. Seconds during the sales tend to go for $200-230 or so.

PSA: The Hanover whole-cut in bourbon is $255 on amazon.  Quite a nice discount.

My understanding is that according to the rumor, the Brooks Brothers versions of the Strand and Fifth Avenue will be part of the 2 for $250 sale. There is no guarantee that your size/color will be available in that sale. Personally, I quite like the Brooks Brothers versions of those shoes, but I see on the forums that some do not. To each his own. Regarding your earlier question, I would say yes when starting out a wardrobe the dark brown shoes may work a little better for you than walnut. During the last sale, I picked up the Brooks Brothers version of the brown Strand--I love them. They fit great and I am liking the dark brown color--I was initially worried they were too bland looking. I am actually tempted to pick up the black and walnut BB strands if they will be available in my size--my brown ones are just so comfortable to me. I suppose it is a bit boring to just buy 1 style of shoe in assorted colors, though.

I read Ralph Lauren and closeout versions, but if we get the BB ones too I will be very happy.

Just bought a used pair of AE Dalton boots in an 8.5E for 215 shipped. Will post pics when I get them in.

How did I do? First pair of AE's. I've been looking for a good pair of boots for a while and wanted something that would last. How'd you think I did on the price? Shoes look to be in good condition and the original owner had a pair of rubber half soles put on top of the leather, so the leather soles are in great condition underneath. Perfect for the upcoming boston winter!

I e-mailed a head and was told RL, BB and closeouts would be a part of the 2 for 250 sale. I'm hoping to get some BB walnut strands, but they were out during labor day.

That's great then, no one mentioned BB until today from what I saw. I want the Strand in brown, but it was also out during labor day so we shall see.

I think I saw your recent post about these in the spectator porn thread. Was this a seconds sale on this model only for $99?

As JS said, the lines of the brogueing and their spacing from the welt which are what he outlined in the red boxes.  The only way for that to really happen is that when the uppers were lasted, they weren't properly aligned on the last.  It's not a huge deal, unless if becomes distracting to the eye.  It doesn't affect longevity of the shoe.  The ones that the OP showed are acceptable for seconds, but definitely not for firsts, in my opinion.

Received my Shell Cambridge yesterday. Can't see why they were seconds. They are stunning. I've been brushing them like crazy - my wife thinks I'm obsessed. These are easily my favorite AEs so far.

Great deal for the $299 shell 2nds sale a couple of weeks ago.

Those Hamptons are pretty casual, particularly with the pebble grain. I've been considering them myself, but I think that as a first shoe you may want something more formal. You won't want to wear those to a job interview.

Yep, they're from the Shoe Bank.  I got four pairs, two of which were only $99 - these and the "Times Square" patent things (not sure where I'll wear those but I couldn't resist!).  The latter aren't even marked as seconds, came with bags too.
