Great looking boot. I would be tempted to snatch a pair up if they ever come up on closeout in my size again. They are also a conversation starter being they were the boots worn in the movie Titanic!

I did not know this. Are you saying that women will start looking at me the way they look at DiCaprio?

This is the only image I could find showing any male cast member's feet.

Thanks for the tip!

Nice score Doc! As you know the Bayfield never goes on sale at Lands End even when most of the other Canvas things do. After AE purchased my original Bayfields back which I only paid $220 for through the exchange I waited months just for them to get 10.5 back in stock. When they finally did I just paid the $350 figuring that they wouldn't go on sale any time soon and if they did was afraid they would be out of stock again. You got a great deal!

It is one of my favorite boots. Worth owning in CXL, calf and shell in my opinion.

I ended up selling mine due to the constant blisters I received on the tops of my toes and the pinching to the pinky toe. Basically, it was as if the shoe fit like a smaller size since my foot was brought closer to the sloped portions at the top and sides of the toebox. This was a size 13D. My 5 last size is 12.5E...but these felt like a 12 or 11.5D.

I also had sizing issues although for me it was across the ball of the foot after wearing them for long periods of time. I owned the CXL for 2 years and the black calf for 1 year but AE purchased them both back from me for what I paid for them. I replaced them both with a half size larger boot and they fit much better. I had the cappuccino shell made in my TTS but with no poron insole and they fit perfectly. Poron insoles are OK in both of my Wilbert's but other than those I am not a fan of it.

The Bayfield seemed like a nice combination of style and function for that situation (with the lug sole). However, I can't get anything but D widths from Lands End and I don't really see anything currently being offered by AE that fits the bill. The Long Branch seems too casual. Thoughts?

You could take Paul up on his MTO offer and get a pair made at the same cost that most people pay at Lands End.

I am planning on putting rubber over soles and wearing them all the time, including when there is light rain in the late fall, and snow. Would Allen Edmonds spray waterproofer be a good idea? I have heard great things about Alden Leather defender, but it is near impossible to get in Canada.

The Dalton is a true dress boot and I have worn mine under some extreme conditions, many times in the teens below zero Fahrenheit and through some deep snow. I would wait and see how your pair handle getting wet before you treat them, you may not have to do anything. I wear my walnut shell Dalton's in the winter through snow without any issues. Some of my shell does get water welts which go away with time and brushing but most of my shell is fine with being wet on the surface. If yours do need treating Alden SF (I think) has a write up on their web page about using several thin coats of wax for water protection. It goes against the grain of many but I feel it would likely work best if you needed protection for your shell. Congrats on your new Daltons!

For those who went through the process of getting shell MTOs using Paul's promo, how much would I expect to pay for a pair of brown shell McNeils?

OptoDoc and Cold Iron,

Thanks for the responses, that is exactly what I was hoping to hear. Looks like I will just be putting rubber sole of some sort on them when I get them and then wearing them without any coating, at least at first.

I have been, in secret (at least to my family), collecting a modest but respectable collection of AE shoes, and after this weekend, when they have all arrived, I will have to post a family picture. I have 3 more pairs that I am currently on the 2nds wait list for, and then after that, I think I am going to have to take a break for a little while (I know...easier said than done).

One more thing I forgot to ask. For those of you with burgundy shell, what kind of belt do you usually wear to match (or come close)?

$720? Is the 'no MTO charge' SF special over??? OR is that for both pair??

You can get a burgundy belt from AE. They really do get us from all angles. You can also get them at most cothes shops, like Brooks Brothers or JAB. Today, JAB has belts in their "deal of the day", so it might be worth looking. The bottom line is that you should try to match it pretty closely.

I also thought that the MTO charge is waved for the SF members.

I would call back, Mr.K. The sales people are supposed to know about this deal. At least Allison did....

Just a heads up for anyone contemplating new shoe purchases. Not sure if anyone has posted this in recent days.
I've just had an e-mail from Tanger Outlets, who run the Jeffersonville centre.
Pay them $10 and they'll give you a coupon good for 25% off any single purchase, and this can be used anytime up until October 25th.
I've used their coupons before at the Allen Edmonds store there, and Krystal even stretched the terms of the coupon for me a little.
