Good catch, those are gorgeous... especially with that sole.

Not by much but still it is a little bit larger. Just got home and grabbed the shoes to look at before I head out again. If you need better detail I can try to take a picture tomorrow but hope this helps.

Cold Iron, yes I would love to see a side by side picture if it's possible.  My issue here are 2 things.  From a functional perspective, I have a narrow foot and low instep.  The higher vamp lets the shoe envelope my foot much better.  From an aesthetic point of view, I normally wear slim pants.  If the vamp is short, then I think it may show my ankles which would be unsightly.  It sounds like the difference is negligible.  If you can confirm that as well, that would be awesome.

Thanks!

I've got quite a few AE's and I've never paid full price, unless you include the MTO Neumoks for $199 (a STEAL)

Model Place Bought Price Full Retail
Montecito  6pm.com $99 $250
Neumok  AE (webgem) $199 $275
Finch ShoeBank $175 $295
Elgin ShoeBank $175 $295
Townley AE Cleveland $299 $595
Port Washington Amazon.com $59 $175
Park Ave BB ShoeBank $129 $368
Strand ShoeBank $129 $345
Total   $1,264 $2,598

Holy smokes that means I've spent $1264 on shoes in the past 12 months that would normally cost at full price $2598.

So that means I'm right at almost 51.35% off.

That doesn't include the eBay purchases of Alden and my Shoe Mart field trip that cost me $399.

The others were sourced through outlets and 2 pair were purchased from ebay.

I did get lucky several years back when AE put the shell Bradleys on their website for $250 for a few hours. I ordered and they honored it but I don't count those as being full price.

edit: As an addendum to this I have 7 pair of Aldens, 5 in shell, 1 in calf, and 1 in suede. I paid full price for all of them.

Let's see, I think I have 13 pairs of AE's. Of those I paid full price for 3 of them (MTO walnut shell Kenilworth, burg shell Bradley, Elgin). 4 are seconds, 1 from Nordstrom Rack, 1 from ebay, and the rest were discounted firsts.

I don't think I'm that inclined to pay the $345 or so retail price for AE's now because it's close enough to some brands with much higher quality (Carmina, Alfred Sargent, etc.) that the price/quality ratio is a little diminished. And also it's so easy to get AE's on sale, it's kind of hard to pay full price for them.

I had 9 (now 8) pairs of Aldens and paid full price for 4 of them. The ones I got on sale or discounted still cost much more than the on sale/discounted AE's though.

The look of list says to me that you keep an inventory of your shoes?? Or is that something that you just whipped up?

Shoe Mart field trip that cost you $399 sounds like you got some Alden shell seconds...icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif

I think somebody is not quite getting it...  If you still don't get it after this post let me know and I'll fill you in.

Assuming AE monitors this thread to the extent that the SF community believes and my train of thought is correct, I might have blown open this attempt at cheaper suede strands in order to clear this misunderstanding.

LOL...  It was a bit tongue in cheek (I didn't really think they would lower the price obviously), but you hit the nail right on the head...

My AEs, all of which were purchased well below MSRP.

Walnut Strand
MTO Neumok
Tan Suede Neumok
Brown Glasgow
Tan Cronmok
Chili Regent Street which then turned into a MTO Chili McAllister
Brown Hampton

This doesnt include the two pair of Cole Haans that were also purchased under the full-price MSRP.

Im a bargain hunter and hate paying full price and/or shipping costs.

I've only paid full price for my walnut McAllisters. Other than that it's all been seconds and closeouts.

Is Bayfields a good deal at $167? Closeout firsts. I'm not 100% about my size since they apparently have a poron insole. I'm 11.5 3E in 5 and 1 lasts, they're not a perfect fit but as close as I'll get without doing bespoke as I have really weird feet.

I got my only pair of AE's, Walnut New Orleans for 250$, and I couldn't be happier.  Knowing now the quality of AE shoes, I'm fully prepared to pay full price for my next pair of shoes which will likely be the fifth street in brown.  This forum, and the quality, look, and SMELL of my current AEs has made me a lifer.

If I didn't have Jeffersons in standard brown calf, or if the webgems were for cappucino shell, I would have ordered them immediately. I wonder if AE would consider giving me the webgem price for a pair of cappucino shell jeffersons.  Also, why did they decide to go with Jeffersons as opposed to McAllisters?

Sadly, its just something I whipped up from my head. However, it's a little shocking to see what I've spent on shoes in the past year. I didn't include the RL Sandersons and BB Alden Scotch Grain that I flipped on eBay.

You're right on - I got some Alden PTBs (duh...PLAIN TOE) in #8 biggrin.gif

Exhibit A to the statement made by Rydenfan that with a little work AE shell can be on par with Alden shell finish. Outstanding job Shouldaville, they look great!

PSA to 9.5EEE people in need of boots: there's 1 pair of Fifth Street boots in brown at 6pm.com incorrectly listed as 9.5B on the website, for $238: http://www.6pm.com/allen-edmonds-fifth-street-brown-burnished-calf  I was pumped to get these boots in 9.5B, only to find that they had sent me 9.5EEE (despite the box saying 9.5B), so I sent them back.  A day later they are relisted at 9.5B again and I can only assume these are the same ones I had, once again incorrectly marked!  I didn't even bother trying them on but they looked to be in perfect condition.
