I got these two particular styles MTO because I think they won't be out of place with anything from chinos to a suit (although some CBD SF purists may disagree).

So, as part of this MTO program with Allison, one can get a shoe made on a different last, ala your Macneils?  I had no clue about that....

What do you guys think?  thumbs up or thumbs down?

I bought them in both black and dark brown last year when they were talking about discontinuing them. I ended up returning the brown because I couldn't get them to stop squeaking. I really liked the color, but wasn't sure I'd like wearing a boot so I didn't have them replaced. I kept the black which I like quite a bit, just don't wear them much in the hotter weather.

I debated getting a dark brown pair, but ended up buying a pair of dark brown Strands. Personally, I really like the dark brown calf, favoring that over a brown cordovan Strand.

I have had multiple conversations and my understanding is you cannot choose a different last

So, I'm wondering how JohnnyGalt got the Macneil on the 5 last puzzled.gif

Call and ask if there is something you want to order. But I have specifically asked a few times

^+1 no go on the last change.

I am considering purchasing a pair of Daltons for the winter, likely walnut, maybe bourbon. I wear a suit every day. I am wondering how well they would go with a suit. Though I'd just like to have a pair, I would also like to get some regular wear out of them.

Any thoughts?

I have a pair of 5th Streets in black for about a year. I'm very happy with them. They look a good deal like a Strand until you flash a little ankle. Quite comfortable after a brief break-in, and built like a tank. I wear 'em with jeans and suits. Would look great tooling around on a Harley too.

Those were my first AEs. I think it ended up being a great choice. I love boots and think they are more versatile than shoes. They go well with my navy and grey suits and in fact the color, indoors, end up looking like burgundy/merlot (even a salesman at a store I was in that sells AE mistook it for merlot). Fit wise I have found that they are somewhat tighter than the 5-last shoes.

I wish they would make a walnut version!

Thanks!  I'm debating between the brown fifth street and the brown strand.  I'm definitely going to buy one of the two in the next few months.  Thanks a bunch for sharing your experience.

I've got a pair of walnut Daltons and personally, I think they are too casual to be worn with a suit.  That's just my opinion, though.

Very well done, congrats! You will not get any disagreement from me over your selection or reasoning for doing so.
