Thanks for sharing this. I'm planning on buying Cognac McTavishes, and I would've definitely done the same as you. Do most of y'all agree with no saddle soap? I'm surprised to hear this since AE's website recommends it.

So what is recommended? I still am unclear on the different effects of the following, and which leathers to use them on:

  1. AE Conditioner/Cleaner: Mainly cleans, but also moisturizes? For regular calf only?
  2. AE Saddle Soap: Cleans and restores oils. For distressed/waxy leathers only?
  3. AE Leather Lotion: No clue why one would use this instead of other things.
  4. AE Shoe Cream: No clue. Alternative to polish?
  5. Saphir Renovateur: Most recommended on SF. Sounds like it's just a better Conditioner/Cleaner, that also won't darken?
  6. neatsfeet oil: Dunno. Alternative to the mink oil in Reno?
  7. Leather Honey: Something I bought for furniture to restore oils before I was into shoes. Known to darken. Wonder what y'all think of it.

Okay, I know that's open-ended and gets a little into general shoe care, but curious about any information y'all have on the effects of these on different AE offerings, especially regular calf or the Rough Collection.

I have the Cognac McTavish and I use only the AE Leather Lotion. No problems and no color change. I believe the AE Cleaner/Conditioner would work also, but the Leather Lotion is bit thicker and seems to soften the leather a bit more in my expierience. I think the Cleaner/Conditioner is more of a prep step before polishing as the Leather Lotion is the "all in one" product.

I tried on a pair of shell chukkas two weeks ago, my feet were swimming in them since the Tannery in boston only had a 10D. I agree tho, expensive, but they felt significantly nicer than anything else I have ever had on my feet. I would have been in danger if they had a 9D available.

Agree, but those are still the original soles and heels, just with a topy and heel taps. You can just barely make out the ALlen Edmonds on the sole of the left shoe. They have been worn heavily, and are in need of care, but salvageable IMO. I still wouldn't spend very much money on them though (I'm just not into used shoes).

Ah, got it. Didn't look close enough to notice that it's a topy.

Just wondering if anyone can shed some insight on the sizing for the Amok. I own a Dundee in 9D and it fits perfectly. Should I go the same for the Amok? I've read through much of this thread and noticed people mentioning the Amok has a narrow-ish toe and just thought I'd ask for some opinions from people who may have both as well.

Thanks
This probably won't help much since I don't own the Dundee, but I'm a 9.5D in both the McTavish and the Amok. The Amok is extremely comfortable and a steal at that price IMO.

Just got my RL Illford boots from Jay, size 10D. I assume these were seconds at $199 but I can't really tell what the defect was. Pretty tremendous value, especially for those that snagged a pair at $149 during the Black Friday sale.

I think AE walnut polish would be too dark for these so I plan to polish them with Saphir Tan. Unsure if I'll topy these but I do plan to wear them mostly during the winter months.

That makes sense. Thanks for this.

Just got back from a business trip, past the Jeffersonville outlet. I stopped in to try on a pair of Norwich in brown shell, (which were too big, but gorgeous), and burgundy shell Dalton boots (were the right size, but the defects that made them seconds were problems for me). So, I ended up getting only a burgundy shell belt.

Two PSAs:

If anyone is interested in size 9D truffle / cappuccino shell cordovan McAllisters, there is a pair there.

Also, they had these shoes, made by AE for Wolverine. All size 8D. $159 I think.

Hello all,

I have a brand new pair of shell cordovan McGraw's for sale. I'll be putting up a FS up, but wanted to post some pics in here first.

All details on the McGraw can be found on AE - http://www.allenedmonds.com/aeonline/producti_SF8904_1_40000000001_-1

Truffle (Cappuccino) Shell Cordovan
Size 10.5B
Comes with box and bags.

If you aren't familiar with the 4-234 last, I would say it fits like a 9.5D on the 3 last. I just put these up against my Neumora's which are a 9.5D, and the length is near identical. The width as well fit me perfect.

$400 OBO shipped continental US, certified shipping.

Happy Holidays, buy something for yourself this time around, ha! Please feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

I don't know why the Elgins aren't sold yet. Popular size.
