its too much work to get a list of closeouts from each location lol.

The list from jeffersonville contains the inventory company wide.  No need to call the other outlets.

.

I think we were the first shell Bayfield orders but I may be wrong. I know when I placed mine they had to figure out with manufacturing if it could be done. i am still trying to temper my excitement; they have already failed final inspection once. If/when I get a tracking number than I will be very excited.

Oh, I also placed two more shell MTO orders today... icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif

Are the bayfields still being made? Is the only place to get them currently through lands end? I've never seen them anywhere else, or on the seconds list.

Hey guys, I was doing some browsing through the forum and came across these beauties. Anyone out there have the details?

They could seriously be a MTO option sometime soon!

That's the distressed MacNeil. AE *really* needs to do more dark brown shoes with natural welts.

What did you order?

Since we're on the subject, Ashland card holder in #2 shell. I use it for my business cards.

My hopes got crushed. I received a call to tell me that the Elgin I ordered is not available. So I need to try my actual size, but the shoe runs big, I need to pick another shoe to get the 2 for $250, or cancel the order and miss out on the Malverns.

The kicker is there is nothing else I like. There may have been when I asked for the Elgin two days ago, but everything is gone now.

I was measured as a 13D on the Brannock and wear a 13D in 1511G and 8-678 where I use my custom orthotics. Both lasts still fit me well when I use the standard insoles, but for comfort and all day wear I always use my orthotics.

Thanks for the reply.  I think that I'll wait until I can get to an AE store where I can try a pair on to see how they fit--just to be on the safe side.

If those are all you found, I think you have a great pair of boots.  The piece on the welt looks like a pair of nail clippers or small scissors will make quick work of it.  As another said above, that isn't a second's mark on the sole.  It's hard to tell for sure, but it even looks like it may be in a spot that will wear off during regular wear anyway.

This is a factory seconds branding:

It is a small shoe symbol made by a hot iron, and it is always placed directly in front of the heel, so it won't wear off.

I think the issue with some defects on AE shoes coming from Nordstrom has some merit, but I still think it is a matter of high demand causing a domino effect of rushing manufacturing to fill orders.  I think it is a natural consequence and it happens any time you put stresses on increasing output on a product that has such a high level of human involvement in manufacturing.  I don't think it has anything to do with Nordstrom.  I think if AE suddenly ran a sale of the same magnitude and exposure level as Nordstrom's Anniversary Sale, you would see some similar results on shoes in AE stores.

Alden QC is always being complained about these days as well, and it is simply because demand is through the roof right now.

I also still think the perspective issue we discussed a few days ago is still pertinent here.  I still maintain that you are comparing apples to oranges when you expect perfection from a shoe that isn't given the same time and attention as a "premium" shoe in the same construction category.  You can't compare a shoe like an AE that has massive amounts of human involvement to a cheap factory shoe that is made by precise robotic arms that prevent any entry of error.  You also can't compare them to a "premium" pair of Goodyear-welted shoes that literally take weeks to make because of the attention to detail given them.

Read this week's timely article from Justin Fitzpatrick over at The Shoe Snob:

I think it will help.

I second that, even though Justin's words can be a bit harsh, but I agree with Money and him wholeheartedly.
