I don't know exactly what it is. I think it's the fact that the heel sticks out a bit, and it looks a little short than AE offerings. Too bad I can't justify $667 for it.

I have a pair and love them. Just be forewarned that the pic you posted somehow shows the boot to be sleeker than it really is. The toe box is not as flat or as low as in the pic. It's a bit higher or a bit more bulbous, although I don't mean that in a bad way. Check the Alden thread for some irl pics.

Is your fit snug? Did you measure your feet with socks on? If so, were those thin dress socks?

This is my first post here and I was really hoping for some advice.  I am very new to the "high end" dress shoe world.  I bought 2 pairs of Allen Edmond Strands online.  The size is 10 D.  I have been searching all morning and haven't been able to find an answer to my question.  I measure exactly 10 D on a Brannock device.  The shoes appear to be perfect length, toe box/ball area is super comfortable, very minimal heel slippage BUT the shoe feels too tight in the middle area, across the outside arch of my foot (inside is OK).  Basically across the narrowest part of the sole, ahead of the heel, is where it feels tight on my foot.  Now, I would think going up in width would be the answer, however I believe width is measured at the widest part of the shoe (ball area) which fits me perfectly as-is.  Every question about width I can find seems to be regarding rubbing toes, but my issue is further back in the shoe, ahead of the heel but before the ball (essentially the part of the shoe below the laces, but on the lower outside edge of my foot).

I have only worn the shoes for a few hours, but I would like to know if that area of the shoe will stretch or not.  Again, the rest of the shoe is perfect (length, toe box, etc.) which is where everyone else seems to be having issues.  My only option is to buy online unless I want to pay $410/pair (I'm in Canada), so getting sized at an AE store isn't an option for me.  These are "5" last shoes.  I bought them from the Shoebank, so I can return them but at my cost of shipping.

Thanks in advance for any insight, I'm really torn.  They definitely aren't broken in yet, but I am wondering if that area will stretch, or if moving from a 10D to 9.5 E would be better, even though the 10 D fits well everywhere else.  I'm not sure I really want to go to a local Harry Rosen and waste a bunch of their time on sizes without any intention of ever buying from them, since I only buy online.

I also find the 5 last narrow. I have to go from a D width to an E.

As of today I am 13 weeks and 5 days for a pair of Shell Walnut MacNeils. After 10 weeks (though Iw as told 6-8 to make them when I ordered them), I was told, when I called AE, not when they called me, that my first pair did not pass inspection. Understandable, and I appreciate high standards and what a top quality product. But at that time I was told my remakes would be made in an expedited fashion, and I should be hearing rom them in 1 week or so.

It is frustrating for me. But I am still looking forward to what I know will be one of my favorite shoes. Though, not as much as I was 3+ months back when I finally pulled he trigger on them.

This mirrors my experience exactly, especially the last part.

The difference now, however, is that when I've called recently, it goes to voicemail.

Surprised they're calling it Mora 2.0 if it's effectively the original Mora; my understanding is they've brought back models from the dead and even changed them without renaming them.

Any word on when this'll be available?

Not to mention that these are shoes, not computer software.

Misery loves company...I am glad to hear I am not alone though. I have sent 4 or 5 emails as well as left two messages just asking for an update. all I am looking is simply a timeframe when they may be ready. I really dont think that the courtesy of a returned email and that info is too much to ask

I've gotten all four of mine from this round.  My second try at walnut shell MacNeils landed yesterday!

These look great!   How did you get these?  I would love to get some myself.  Who is Paul and what is the MTO offer?

The Fairfax was what started my love affair with AE as I saw it in a few men's magazines (in chestnut/walnut) and even on a billboard or two near the higher end shopping centers in town. I knew that those were big boy shoes and that one day I would make them mine.

When Paul made the MTO offer, even for discontinued models, the Fairfax immediately came to mind as a must have in a rare shell color.

As with the cappuccino shell Fifths, these were FLAWLESS right out of the box. I have been reading that there have been a lot of rejects in the MTO make ups as of late but assure you it is well worth the wait for the perfect pair.

Last MTO should be landing middle to late next month. Getting very close to having a complete collection... until the new fall line of boots comes out of course.

If the strands don't fit me well at the ankle (flares open) how would the patriot fit?

I'd say I'm about a 8.5D/E in Strand/PA.

I did try on neumok in 8.5 sockless in store and it seemed to fit great.

Thanks

Walnut Strands arrived from Nordstrom (direct from AE).  Took about 2 weeks.  The i-phone pic does not do justice to how nice these really are.

It's somewhat odd that some people seem to be rolling in the MTOs, and others are having trouble even making contact with someone.

I am now into the 9th week since my (non-shell) MTO Leeds order. Emailed Allison last week to ask about their status, since I was originally told it would be 8 weeks. I did get a reply right away saying that they were on schedule and would be ready by the end of last week or beginning of this week, but I'm still waiting and have not received word. I'm being patient and giving them the benefit of the doubt, although I am envious of some of you guys who got your MTOs in ~4 weeks.

Paul Grangaard is the CEO of Allen Edmonds.  His offer is to email him directly with your MTO preferences, and he will have them made at the standard price for a pair of AE first quality shoes of the same material, as long as the materials are available and your request is "reasonable."  They will tell you if it can't be done.
