Really love the shine especially the last pair. I just never seem to be able to do that my self. Most likely why I gone shell so I don't have to even try

Fabulous choice, these are great looking shoes.

I don't think so. I think a big part of the sizing depends on your specific foot shape, I wear the same size in 4, 5 and 8 lasts: 12E. They all fit me very well and they're almost all balmorals. A couple of pairs are a little looser than others, but the looser ones are the 5-lasted. I think this is just due to the slight variation from hand-crafting or different leathers, even on the same shoe and some of my 5-lasts are spot on. I would try TTS first.

Slightly off shoe topic... There seems to be several on here who know a lot about the upcoming Nordstrom sale. I need to buy a few suits. What is the difference with the upcoming sale on the 19th versus what is on sale now? I'm wondering if I should try to get there before this sale ends or if these types of men's clothing items will also be on sale come the 19th.

Thanks in advance.

My brown shell Patriots fit snug but pretty much perfectly so I ordered the burgundy also. Much to my surprise they are about a quarter size larger. My right foot is just a bit smaller than my left which is common and when the heel hit the ground they flared badly, and when they closed they would push air out. Great, now a loafer with bowing issues! Several AE SA have said minor bowing like that is caused by lack of foot volume but I already wear superfeet insoles. I purchased a pair of thin odor eaters and using only the right one cut it so it is only about long as the superfeet inserts. The bowing and gush of air went away. Might be worth a try.

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

If it is major bowing you can measure it by comparing the right shoe against the throat opening in the left. It is too large there is nothing you can do except send them back to QA to have them check it and replace it if it is out of specs.

Thanks much CI. As always, your suggestion makes sense. The bowing is not too much, so I will try the inserts. I will post the update here back soon.

My chili Fairfaxes (ignore the baggy pants, was wearing an old suit that's too big on me now).

Excellent comparison! Exactly what I was looking for, thank you!

I *think*I like the new finish more as it removes the light cherry/pinkish tones of the old finish. since you own both, what are your thoughts? that said, The lighting in the picture makes the new one look a bit flat / lacking luster. Do you find that to be the case in real life?

Part of that may be the "new" finish, but a large part is just the aging of the shell. It changes color a lot and it doesn't take very long to do it. I bet if you put one of those MacNeils in the direct sun for two full days you'd easily be able to tell which one it was because it would be noticeably lighter.

I too plan on picking up two suits during the anniversary sale. Probably the Joseph Abboud Dignature or Hugo Boss Pasolini. The anniversary sale is the biggest of the year.

Excellent!! I am assuming your Bayfields are cordovan? When did you order them? I am just trying to gauge when mine might be ready
