1. There appears to have been an e-mail from the AE CEO (Paul) waiving the MTO fee? Is this correct? If so, it is exclusively for shell or any shoe?

2. I keep seeing "an additional 20% off" thing. Is this an unspoken sale? Exclusive to amazon? or a discount you can get in store? I saw that someone at the jeffersonville outlet received a 20% discount.

If someone could summarize, I would really appreciate it.

Amazon has an exclusive 20% off promotion if you sign up for an email list.  Wholly separate from that, AE's Jeffersonville outlet has a temporary 20% off sale.

Mine should be here today, along with the New Orleans. The Amoks just arrived yesterday from the Amazon sale. I'm only going to keep either the Amok or the Karmai. I don't have any boots at this juncture, which ones do you think are more versatile?

Paul Grangaard had posted on here and offered to make a deal for any of us SFers. I have contacted him about a pair of Walnut Shell Cordovan MacNeils. I am paying the retail price for the shoe, but no MTO fee. I can not speak as to if this is what everyone is being offered, but it what I have been offered. I am going to assume he is waving the MTO, but you know what happens when you assume. His email was not specific to Cordovan, but I think most people here were after special make up cordovan. Again, assuming, you should be able to have anything made. I believe he mentioned old styles that were no longer being made as long as they had the dies, and also having shoes made in another color if they had the leather.

As for the 20% sale, It is at the Jeffersonville outlet for one item. If you mention this to the Port Washigton outlet, they will match it. I picked up a pair of Shell Cordovan Park Aves for $359. I also ordered a pair of Shell Cordovan Patriots yesterday for $359. Of course, they were both seconds. I can not find any noticeable reason why the Park Aves were seconds. The sales associate said one had a bit of a different sheen than the other, and sent them over to have the production team strip and refinish them. They came to me looking like first quality. I look forward to getting the Patriots.

Got a couple questions...

Went to Nordstrom rack with the wife the other day, and ran across a pair of AE boat shoes that were exactly what I was looking for and fit perfect. I know being Nordstrom rack they are an older outdated pair. I'm curious as to which ones they are. I've tried searching, but can't find them online at all anywhere. They were stuck in a fairfax box, so that doesn't help to id them. Do any of you guys know?

Next question, I'm getting a pair of Dalton's in Walnut within the next couple days. I want to get the black patina look on the toe and heel. I've looked up how to do this, but still have some questions. Should I use black wax or polish? Should I use a walnut polish first, then add the black wax/polish? Should I layer the polishes differently, and how often should I use the black?

Thanks

2) there is a crack on the back heel tab. Should I color it in with meltonian, or should I return the shoes? They were pretty cheap and are in spotless condition otherwise:

If the shoes do not feel like a great fit now, then they will not improve.  And if there is a noticeable lump under your foot, that may cause more harm to your foot over time.  For these reasons, I would return them - and not the cosmetic issues.  (Every AE pair I have purchased came with that great fit and ready to wear - with no break-in time)

However - the picture you posted of the heel does not look like a Kenilworth to me.  I went to eBay to look at the "completed sales" within the last 2 months - and the photos of the heels appear of a different style than of the one you posted.

Below are some photos of what the Kenilworth heels look like (which is unique):

A Thrift Store purchase?  Dare I ask how much?

Web Gems anyone:

Wow. I'd love to get a pair of the Bourbon & Bone McClains that they've stopped making.

If you post a photo of the stamped codes that appear inside the shoe, it would help in tracking down more information.

1)  As suggested - just post the series of numbers located inside the shoe.  (By the way, that is one of the best looking set of boat shoes I have seen)

2)  For the Dalton instructions, the best source of instructions and superior products would be in the following link:

Gentlemen, thank you for your comments! I think I will stay away from the shoe for now - this forum is the next best thing as having an AE store close by.

And WTH has happened to this thread? I see 60+ new posts a day, and I assume there's a new controversy! But no, it's just people discussing shoes again. icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif

I agree on ALL points! MWS is always worth the read and I enjoy them a lot. And yes it is great to be back to discussing shoes. And shoe pictures once again!

Your welcome, that is why we post pictures- to enable others biggrin.gif

So last night I had my shell samples out and a couple pairs of shoes when the girlfriend came over. She said that I had told her there was a shortage of shell and asked what was I up to. I quoted your post from another thread where you read your wife about the shortage and she started crying and you told her not to worry. And she replied no they were tears of joy. My gf laughed so hard she actually cried. Thank you for that!

When I talked to them about pricing she said whatever is current retail unless it was a webgem then pricing would be what it was when offered. Boots are more than shoes at $695 because there is more leather and sometimes more work involved.

I was surprised to find that walnut is closer to ravello than whiskey, without the red tint in ravello of course. Whiskey must be a very light color. I don't need to know, I don't need to know, I don't need...

Outstanding! I have the brown and am considering the burgundy. Someday...

In the first place -- those look fantastic! I just pulled the trigger on some burgundy shell MacNeils; I wonder if Mr. Grangaard's offer might persist for another few months of ramen-and-PBJ diet so I can afford a pair of 14AAA walnut shell Patriots...

When I talked to the SWAT team yesterday she said there is no expiration on Paul's offer.

The right answer is to keep both of course.... My personal preference is the Katmai however. When you get both see what you think and how it fits in with what you will wear them with.

I received my Merlot McAllister firsts, and while they're otherwise great, I'm a little bothered with the toe caps. In particular, there's a very obvious ridge between the toe cap structure and the rest of the uppers. As much as I want to keep them (and wear them to a wedding today), I'm think I'm going to return them for replacements. I feel that I'm being a tad picky, but I'm also quite sure if I didn't return them I'd likely always look at them and wish I did. If they were seconds, it would be another story. Any comments on how common this minor problem is?

FWIW, I don't have those types of ridges on my merlot mcallisters.  Did they come like that or did they show up after trying them on, perhaps they are too long?

744 LTDs after a round of Saphir Reno.  Don't want to admit it, but the stuff is pretty damn good and pricy.  I wonder what the next iteration of the Wolverine x AE collaboration will be?  I'll be saving my pennies up for them.  Both so far have been outstanding.
